Sigma Corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of cameras, camera lenses, and photographic accessories. Making all its products in the company's own factory in Japan, SIGMA is best known for its high-quality 3rd-party lenses and other accessories compatible with cameras made by other companies.
Since 2018, SIGMA has been a founding member of the L-Mount Alliance alongside Leica and Panasonic. It has since abandoned its proprietary SA-mount.
Foveon X3 Cameras
SIGMA made a number of film SLR cameras in the past, though recently it had focused on digital SLRs using the unique Foveon X3 sensor. Foveon X3 sensor uses an array of photosites that consist of three vertically stacked photodiodes, as opposed to the conventional Bayer filter. Each of the three stacked photodiodes has a different spectral sensitivity, allowing it to respond differently to different wavelengths.
In recent years, SIGMA has amde autofocus lenses for full-frame DSLRs (notably Canon EF, Nikon F, and Sony A mount) as well as full-frame and APS-C mirrorless cameras (notably Sony E and Leica L).
SIGMA arranges its lenses in three main product lines: Art (A), Contemporary (C), and Sport (S).
SIGMA has introduced a full-frame mirrorless camera, the FP, in 2019 with a range of L-mount lenses and adapters.
