Product Overview

Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens for Leica L-mount and Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sigma in 2022, it has 16 elements in 11 groups.
Photographers will be pleased by the fact that the lens is internally-zooming, meaning that the barrel does not extend when the focal length is changed. This helps balance and weather sealing; it is also great for long-term durability, as there is less chance for moisture and dirt to get in. For incremental weathers, Sigma is kind enough to include weather sealing.
The f/2.8 maximum aperture is quite bright for an ultra wide-angle zoom lens and can be quite valuable for night and astro photography. During daytime, it can offer a unique perspective for landscape photography as well. Even though the lens is not stabilized, at this focal range it does not usually matter. In fact, some may be able to get cleaner corners without image stabilization.
Arguably, the 16-28mm F2.8 is an interesting alternative to the wonderful 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art. However, as part of the Contemporary line, its build quality is lower than that of the Art lens, and its image quality is somewhat sacrificed in order to achieve its size and weight.
