Product Overview

Sigma 40mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art is a large-aperture normal prime lens for Canon EF-mount, Nikon F-mount, Sigma SA-mount, and Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sigma in 2018, it has 16 elements in 12 groups.
For incremental weathers, Sigma is kind enough to include weather sealing.
A normal prime lens, the 40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art has the potential to be one of the most used and ultimately versatile option in a photographer's bag. Usually the easiest to design and to QC, it is a great option for landscape and street photography. Its bright maximum aperture also helps night and portrait works.

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Sigma 40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art delivers exceptional image quality. It's a better lens than the company's lauded 35mm F 1.4 Art, especially when partnered with a demanding, high-resolution image sensor. But it's a lot more and, perhaps more importantly, is a good deal larger and heavier.
Pros
  • Sharp edge-to-edge resolution
  • Cinema-first design
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Bulkier than competitors
  • Vignette effect
