History
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational automaker. Since 1999, Nissan has been part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. It is currently the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in sales volume.
History
Originally founded in 1911 as Kaishinsha Motor Car Works, the company produced its first car in 1914, the DAT. After WWI, the company made a small car named Datsun Type 11, meaning the "son of DAT" in 1931. In 1934, the company became Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
During WWII, Nissan built trucks, airplanes, and engines for the Imperial Japanese Army. During the Korean War, it was a major vehicle supplier for the US Army.
From the 1950s, Nissan expanded worldwide with its Datsun small car brand. The oil crisis of the 1970s aided its growth in popularity. The company established manufacturing facilities in Europe in the 1980s to reduce cost and to circumvent tariffs.
In 1999, facing severe financial difficulties, Nissan entered an alliance with Renault.
Current Lineup
Nissan currently has a large vehicle lineup. Its premium brand Infinity markets sedans, crossovers, and one SUV. The main brand has numerous hatchbacks, sedans, crossovers, and SUVs.
