Product Overview

The facelifted 5th-gen E-class C238 Coupe and A238 Cabriolet share design, mechanical, and technology updates with the facelifted E-class W213 Sedan and S213 Wagon. AWD is standard on the six-cylinder models, while RWD is standard with I4 variants. V8 (E63 AMG) found in the sedan & wagon is not available in the coupe or cabriolet.
Design-wise, all-LED headlamps now feature flatter housings, while the interior of the LED tail lights are revamped. Inside, the AMG models feature a new AMG Performance steering wheel that creates an even closer link between human and machine.
The facelifted 5h-gen E-class are electrified with integrated starter-generator. The DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL suspension with adjustable damping is available as optional equipment.
The updated infotainment system MBUX is standard on all vehicles. Thanks to artificial intelligence, MBUX recognises and understands nearly all sentences from the fields of infotainment and vehicle operation, even if they are expressed indirectly.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
With the roof down you get a better taste of the straight-six motor’s sonorous, tuneful soundtrack. Acceleration is wonderfully creamy and consistent, and the engine pulls strongly right the way through its rev range. As a long-distance, open-top cruiser there really isn’t much that competes with the E450 Cabriolet save the BMW 840i.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • No automatic gearbox
  • Lack of fun to drive

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The E 53 Cabriolet is the toughest-looking E-Class available to buyers. Features a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight six engine, boosted by a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Despite that AMG badge, it doesn't take long to realise that the E 53 is very much a car set up for cruising. Comfort and stability at motorway speeds are excellent, even the roof down.
Pros
  • Gorgeous, open top cabin
  • Excellent infotainment tech
Cons
  • Not the most fun to drive
  • Lack of agility

cnet[3]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Cabriolet starts at $83,845 including a $995 destination fee. Accelerating to 60 mph takes a scant 4.4 seconds, which is pretty good for a 4,566-pound convertible. The E53's suspension does an excellent job of smoothing out rough roads.
Pros
  • Fantastic infotainment tech
  • Superb cabin tech
  • Comfortable AMG seats
Cons
  • Expensive compared to rivals
