Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The £107,000 M850i xDrive is one half of the initial convertible line-up. The other half is an 840d xDrive M Sport equipped with BMW’s supremely smooth, economical 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel. Both drivelines are carried over wholesale from the coupé. The convertible gives almost nothing away to its coupé sibling in terms of straight-line speed, adding just 0.2sec to the 3.7sec 0-62mph time.
Pros
  • Powerful twin-turbo V8
  • Impressive handling
Cons
  • Not the most expressive

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The new 8 Series Convertible has a folding fabric roof rather than a complex metal set-up. It opens and closes in just 15 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph. Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic construction means that BMW's engineers haven't had to go all that overboard to retain as much of the Coupé's rigidity as possible.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Intuitive infotainment system
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Not as powerful as rivals
  • Not as agile as rivals

Reviewers from carwow have found:
The BMW 8 Series Convertible is the solution to a problem that's nice to have: how to blast from the UK to the south of France quickly but comfortably. But it isn't necessarily the only answer. There are other luxurious open-top GT cars that'll scythe their way to Saint Tropez with similar speed and grace. The best of those include the Bentley Continental GT Convertible and Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet.
Pros
  • Fantastic infotainment system
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Back seats aren’t as comfortable as rivals
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive
