History

Sony Electronics Corporation is a subsidiary of the Sony Corporation, the Japanese multinational conglomerate. It incorporates three businesses that comprise Sony's Electronics Products & Solutions, including imaging products, home entertainment, and mobile communications.

Digital Imaging

Sony introduced the Alpha camera system on 5 June 2006, expanding upon Konica Minolta camera technologies. In May 2010, Sony introduced the new E-mount with a flange focal distance of 18 mm and a throat diameter of 46.1 mm. Today, Sony is a market-leader in mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras (MILC). E-mount cameras, lenses, and camcorders are commonly used by enthusiasts and professionals.
Sony's digital imaging products also extend to camcorders, including professional camcorders.

Home Entertainment

Sony's home entertainment products comprise a broad range of audio and video devices. They include the Sony Bravia hi-definition television using LED, full-array LED, and OLED technologies, premium video projectors (including laser projectors), and a broad range of Hi-Fi products, headphones, and recording equipment.
Today, Sony's legendary Walkman series music players, which enjoyed immense success in the 1980s and 1990s, completes Sony's home entertainment lineup.

Mobile Devices

Sony's mobile business started in 2001 as a joint venture between Sony and Ericsson. Far from its height of popularity in the 2000s, Sony currently focuses on the Xperia series premium smartphones.
