Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The 392 is the same naturally aspirated Hemi unit found in the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack, making 470bhp and 470lb ft. It sounds gravelly and archaic, rather than woofly and smooth like the twin-turbocharged V8s we get here in Europe. The engine is mated to an automatic eight-speed gearbox. Top speed is limited to 99mph to protect the all-terrain tyres.

Pros
  • Fantastic off-road performance

  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Not the most fun to drive

JL Wrangler comes with a modern touchscreen infotainment system, electric windows all round, cruise control and climate control. So, in many respects, it’s appointed and equipped like any big luxury car. Sahara and Overland grades of Wrangler have different axles, suspension struts and axle drive ratios, as well as different wheel and tyre specifications.

Pros
  • Decent off-road capability
  • Decent interior and handling
Cons
  • Lack of refinement
  • Uncomfortable to drive

autocar[3]

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
First new Wrangler in a decade, with more USB ports, a more sensibly laid out interior, more leg room and greater efficiency. But also a windscreen you can drop flat after removing just four bolts. More easily removable roof (three-piece solid, full canvas or, coming later, an electric canvas hood) Better off-road angles, more ground clearance, a tighter turning circle, lighter doors with a grab handle inside so you can lift them off more easily. Five-link suspension with solid axles, low ratio, locking differentials and mega wheel articulation.

Pros
  • Superb off-road performance
  • Superb interior
  • Lots of fun to drive
Cons
  • Noisy on the road
  • Noisy in the 2dr

There's plenty of leg and shoulder room for passengers in the front seats of the Wrangler. The extended length of the four-door car means space in the back is acceptable, too. In the two-door the rear seats are cramped, as well as awkward to get into. The Wrangler's rugged simplicity has always been a selling point for those wishing to take their vehicle off road.

Pros
  • Rugged, rugged design
  • Easy to drive
  • Decent fuel economy
Cons
  • Lack of safety equipment
  • Only one star rating

There are two new engines, one a 2.0-litre petrol with 268bhp and 400Nm. The interior has also been comprehensively reworked to make it more appealing to a broader audience, reckons Jeep. There are three trim levels and two body styles to choose from; Overland, Sahara and Rubicon, all of which come with either two doors or four.

Pros
  • Excellent off-road capability

The new Jeep Wrangler may be better than its predecessor in every conceivable way, but it's still a car you buy with your heart rather than your head. In two-door petrol form it's thirsty, hideously impractical, and tricky to drive around town. Yet that's unlikely to matter to those who want one; the Wrangler is an incredibly talented off-roader that's simply dripping in charm.

The top-of-the-line Rubicon model has all the off-road goodies I could want. Front and rear locking differentials, full skid plate protection, rock rails and a 4:1 low-range gear ratio. But that doesn't mean the Rebelle Rally is a walk in the park.

The EPA says this Jeep should return 22 miles per gallon in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway. A speedy and smooth stop-start system undoubtedly helps bolster that around-town figure. The Wrangler's chassis may have more in common with a covered wagon than more "modern" vehicles.

powered Wrangler will carry a 5.1-gallon diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tank behind the regular fuel tank. DEF is injected into the exhaust to convert harmful emissions to water and nitrogen. Owners will refill the DEF tank approximately every 10,000 miles, the same mileage required for oil changes.
