History
Opel Automobile GmbH is a German subsidiary of the multinational automaker Stellantis. Opel also sells its vehicles under the Vauxhall brand in the UK.
Originally a German bicycle manufacturer since the mid 19th century, Opel started manufacturing automobiles after its invention. Opel vehicles were rather less sophisticated than its higher-profile compatriots, and this positioning remains till this day.
Over the years, the Opel brand changed hands several times. Since the 1970s, Vauxhall became a rebrand Opel sold only in the UK. More recently, it was acquired by PSA, which itself merged with FCA to form Stellantis.
