External Reviews

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Panasonic Lumix S1H is a full-frame mirrorless camera aimed at professional videographers and cinematographers and boasting 6K video at 24p. Like the Lumix GH5S before it, it is unashamedly aimed at pro video. A 4:3 Anamorphic mode is also available for use with anamorphic lenses, and the flat V-Log profile is included as standard, allowing over 14 stops of dynamic range. All formats can be recorded internally for unlimited times and Panasonic has beefed-up the body a little to better manage heat.
Pros
  • 6K video at 24p
  • 4:3 Anamorphic mode is included as standard, allowing over 14 stops of dynamic range
  • 5.9k RAW external recording to an Atomos Ninja V which encodes it in the Apple ProRes RAW format
Cons
  • L-mount is a partnership between Leica, Panasonic and Sigma to develop cameras and lenses based on Leica’s existing L-mount

digitaltrends[2]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The Lumix S1H has a narrowly defined target customer in the video professional. Panasonic's unique focusing system simply can't keep pace with the phase-detection systems of Sony and Canon. Even after factoring in the cost of an external recorder, starting at about $600, it's a bargain.
Pros
  • Full 5.9K RAW video output
  • Compact, lightweight design
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No 4K/60 support
  • Autofocus can lag behind Sony and Canon

techradar[3]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Panasonic Lumix S1H is the latest in the S series of mirrorless cameras. It supports Panasonic's V-Log mode and 4:2:2 10-bit recording for a cheaper price. Video quality is almost flawless, with 14 stops of dynamic range when shooting V-log. But autofocus performance slows down in low-light situations, with both stills and video.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • V-Log mode and 4:2:2 10-bit recording
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No internal viewfinder
  • Limited image stabilization
