Product Overview

Samsung QN85A Neo QLED 4K TV is part of Samsung's new Neo QLED lineup. Compared to the QN90A, the QN85A comes with lower HDR rating and a less sophisticated speaker setup.
Like its other models in the Neo QLED lineup, the QN85A enjoys Quantum Mini LED backlight controlled by Quantum Matrix and Neo Quantum Processor to offer high dynamic range and richer color reproduction.
Samsung's Quantum Mini LED measures just 1/40th of the height of a conventional LED. Rather than using a lens to disperse light, it simply packs a large number of Mini LEDs in the backlight matrix. The result is dramatically finer control.
Like premium QLED TVs of the past, the QN85A enjoys 100% DCI-P3 coverage, anti-reflection coating, and ultra-wide viewing angle. It further adds 60W 2.2.2-channel audio system, reducing the need of a sound bar.
Alongside the QN85A, Samsung also introduced the entire Neo QLED range at CES 2021.

Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Samsung QN85A is great for mixed usage. It performs very well in bright settings thanks to its high brightness. It's less suited to dark room viewing or gaming, because its ADS panel has a low native contrast ratio. The fast response time results in clear motion in sports or video games, and the low input lag makes the TV feel responsive.
    Pros
    • Bright enough to make highlights pop
    • Wide viewing angles
    • Outstanding reflection handling
    • Fast response time
    Cons
    • Low native contrast ratio
    • Doesn't support Dolby Vision
    • Local dimming isn't flicker-free

Reviewer score 88% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from t3 have found:
Samsung's QN85A is one of the best soundbars on the market. Smart TV interface is as clear and logical as they come. Only one HDMI 2.1 socket limits future-proofing for multiple next-gen consoles. LG C1 is a big competitor here, but is simply excellent when it comes to features and image quality.
    Pros
    • Excellent picture quality
    • Excellent smart TV interface
    • Excellent motion handling
    Cons
    • No Freeview Play
    • No HDMI 2.1

    Reviewers from techradar have found:
Samsung QE55QN85A is one of the best 4K TVs on the market. Displaying a 4K HDR stream of Black Panther via Amazon Prime Video, the Samsung impresses across the board. The screen's ability to deliver deep, detailed and wide-ranging black tones makes for an absorbing viewing experience. Samsung's numerous compact and tightly controlled dimming zones means backlighting is precise.
    Pros
    • Deep, detailed black tones
    • Excellent upscaling
    • Excellent build quality
    Cons
    • Sound quality could be better
    • No Dolby Vision or HDR10 support

    Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The Samsung QN85A is a full-size LED-backlit LCD TV. It uses Samsung's Tizen-based smart TV interface. Voice control is yours via Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa or Samsung’s own Bixby. There is no Freeview Play, which will be a minor niggle for UK customers.
    Pros
    • Impressive picture quality
    • Impressive backlighting
    • Excellent motion control
    Cons
    • No Freeview Play
    • No Dolby Vision
