Product Overview

Samsung QN90A Neo QLED 4K TV is part of Samsung's new Neo QLED lineup. Like its 8K counterpart, the QN90A enjoys Quantum Mini LED backlight controlled by Quantum Matrix and Neo Quantum Processor to offer even higher dynamic range and richer color reproduction.
In European markets, the QN90A is marketed as QN94A: The QN90A marketed in Europe has a slightly lower peak brightness rating in order to reach a more "efficient" energy class, even though the TVs are otherwise identical.
Samsung's Quantum Mini LED measures just 1/40th of the height of a conventional LED. Rather than using a lens to disperse light, it simply packs a large number of Mini LEDs in the backlight matrix. The result is dramatically finer control. Combined with 12-bit, 4096-step luminance control, Neo QLED elevates the HDR experience to a new level.
Like premium QLED TVs of the past, the QN90A enjoys 100% DCI-P3 coverage, anti-reflection coating, and ultra-wide viewing angle. It further adds 60W 4.2.2-channel audio system, reducing the need of a sound bar.
Alongside the QN90A, Samsung also introduced the entire Neo QLED range at CES 2021.

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from cnet have found:
As with SDR, Samsung's Movie and Filmmaker Modes were the most accurate in terms of grayscale and gamma with just a slight reddish cast. CNET is no longer publishing advanced picture settings for any TVs we review. Instead, we'll give more general recommendations to get the best picture without listing the detailed white balance settings.
    Pros
    • Excellent color accuracy
    • Accurate black levels
    • Excellent motion enhancement
    Cons
    • No HDR10+ support
    • No Dolby Vision support

    Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
This is a demonstrably better TV than the Q90T that came before it. Images are lush and vibrant, colors and HDR highlights pop, and the superior black levels give a sense of depth you don't usually get with an LCD-based TV. Samsung's symphony sound — where the TV's speakers work with the soundbar — is especially impressive.
    Pros
    • Sleek design
    • Excellent black levels
    • Excellent motion handling
    Cons
    • No Dolby Vision
    • No HDMI 2.1 input

    Reviewers from ndtv have found:
The Samsung 55QN90A is among the brightest and most capable premium Ultra-HD televisions you can buy right now. At times, I found the picture too bright and had to change the picture mode to tone things down. The lack of Dolby Vision support on this TV didn't seem to matter at all. The sound is decent for a speaker system built into a television, but didn't quite match up to the quality of the screen.
    Pros
    • Excellent picture quality with HDR10+ content
    • Good upscaling
    • Good motion handling
    Cons
    • No Dolby Vision support
    • No remote control

    pcmag[4]

Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Samsung QN90A is a winner despite slightly inaccurate colors out of the box. It's a 120Hz TV with Auto Low Latency mode, a variable refresh rate (VRR), and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Its input lag is also extremely low; measuring with an HDFury Diva HDMI matrix, we saw a latency of just 2.6ms.
    Pros
    • Extremely bright and colorful picture
    • Excellent contrast ratio
    • Excellent color accuracy
    Cons
    • No Dolby Vision
    • No HDR10 support

    rtings[5]

    Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Samsung QN90A is an excellent TV for any use. Its VA panel provides an excellent native contrast ratio and great local dimming to display deep blacks. It gets bright enough to combat glare and has fantastic reflection handling if you want to use it in a well-lit room. Also, gamers should enjoy its VRR support, low input lag, and quick response time.
    Pros
    • Excellent native contrast ratio
    • Image remains accurate when viewing from the side
    • Great local dimming
    Cons
    • Local dimming is only decent in 'Game Mode'

A uses the newly revampedTM2180E universal remote control, which features a solar panel on the back for charging. Samsung's Smart Hub interface, with its home row of icons that branch into related functions, is also attractive. Samsung should really backseat style and compartmentalization in favor of efficiency and convenience.
    Pros
    • Vivid, vivid image
    • Very smooth motion
    • Excellent viewing angles
    Cons
    • Disappointing zone dimming
    • Lackluster backlight performance

    techradar[7]

Reviewer score 63% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from techradar have found:
Neo Quantum Processor 4K analyzes images on a frame-by-frame basis, upscaling the image if it's coming from a sub-4K resolution using an image database. Motion Xcelerator Turbo+ technology is slightly more judicious in the way it uses judder reduction, but stutter is still an issue because of the TV's native 120Hz refresh rate. Sound quality is, well, surprisingly mediocre and feels like a real step back from previous models.
    Pros
    • Impressive 4K HDR picture quality
    • Impressive motion processing
    Cons
    • Mediocre bass
    • No Dolby Vision support

Samsung's Tizen smart TV software looks more or less the same this year. The home screen's bottom-bar layout is clean and unobtrusive. You can watch what's on your TV and your phone on the same screen in picture-in-picture or side-by-side orientations.
    Pros
    • Clean and unobtrusive design
    • Sleek design
    • Tizen smart TV software
    Cons
    • No HDMI 2.1 port

    Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The Samsung QN94A delivers some of the punchiest, vibrant and colourful 4K HDR images I’ve seen. Images pop with a three-dimensionality; whites are intensely conveyed, with colours wide-ranging, bold and expressive in look. Wide angles are also impressive, retaining saturation and colour depth in a similar manner to OLED TVs. The TV only deals with Standard and Amplify sound modes, but it delivers a big and loud sound that's free from harshness.
    Pros
    • Gorgeous 4K HDR images
    • Excellent build quality
    • Impressive sound system
    Cons
    • No Dolby Vision
    • No HDR10 support

    whathifi[10]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from whathifi have found:
The 50QN90A’s motion handling is disappointing out of the box. Motion processing system comes on too strong, causing distractingly obvious unwanted side effects such as flickering and blurring around the edges of fast moving objects. Shadow detail can be lost in the darkest parts of the picture unless you nudge up the dedicated Shadow Detail adjustment. If you happen to add a recent Samsung soundbar, the two can join forces to deliver a larger, higher soundstage with even more accurately positioned vocals.
    Pros
    • Impressive upscaling of sub-4K content
    • Impressive sound quality
    Cons
    • Motion handling can be fizzing
    • Motion handling could be better

    wired[11]

Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from wired have found:
The QN90A uses thousands of tiny LEDs to backlight the display. The technology is now getting very close to OLED-level performance when it comes to blacks. Samsung's smart TV interface is clean and functional, with apps like HBO Max available natively. It also works remarkably well as a gaming monitor.
    Pros
    • Gorgeous Mini LED backlighting
    • Sleek design
    • Great gaming performance
    Cons
    • No G-Sync or AMD FreeSync support
    • No HDR10+
