Samsung Q80T QLED
4K TVProduct Gallery
Product Overview
Samsung Q80T is the volume-seller in Samsung's 2020 QLED smart TV lineup. A balanced compromised between the Q90T and Q70T, the Q80T offers Direct Full Array 12X full-array LED backlighting, Quantum HDR12X HDR support, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut in 4K.
The Q80T supports all modern smart TV connectivity options such as WiFi 5, eArc Port 3, and Bluetooth.
A similar TV that offers 8K UHD would be Samsung's Q800T.
Samsung also markets the Q85T in select markets, which offers slightly more sophisticated backlighting and thus higher contrast than the Q80T. In markets where only Q80T is marketed, models already enjoy these upgrades.

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)From off-angle the Samsung was the best LCD TV I've tested, maintaining color fidelity, brightness and contrast. The Vizio and TCL looked slightly better than the Sony and the Samsung overall. Samsung continues its tradition of excellent input lag in game mode with just over 14 milliseconds with both 1080p and 4K HDR sources.
Pros
- Excellent color fidelity and contrast
- Excellent motion processing
- Good color accuracy
Cons
- Boomer than the TCL and Vizio
rtings[2]
Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Samsung Q80T is an impressive all-around TV. It's great for watching movies or other content in the dark thanks to its high contrast ratio. It also performs well in bright rooms because of its high peak brightness. It has an excellent response time, so motion looks clear in fast-moving content like video games or sports.
Pros
- High peak brightness
- Great contrast ratio
- Excellent response time
- Wide color gamut
- Incredible reflection handling
Cons
- Local dimming feature doesn't improve much in 'Game' mode
t3[3]
Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Q80T is a formidable 4K performer that warrants a premium price tag. While it lacks Dolby Vision support, it's an intrinsically bright HDR performer. And its OTS sound system is genuinely impressive. But that extra girth used for the full-array backlight means it's not the sexiest Samsung screen you'll seen.
Pros
- Excellent picture quality
- Full-array backlight
Cons
- No Dolby Vision support
- No Freeview Play tuner
techadvisor[4]
Reviewer score 90% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Samsung Q80T is one of the best TVs in its class. It boasts 4K at 120fps on HDMI 4, eARC on HDMI 3, plus VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) plus ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) There's FreeSync support for AMD PC gamers, but no official word on that yet. The screen measures exceptionally well when it comes to image lag.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Excellent picture quality
- Excellent motion handling
Cons
- No Dolby Vision
- No HDR10+ support
techradar[5]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)Samsung Q80T is an update to last year's Q70R model. Has same number of backlight zones as previous model, but with more HDR precision. Has Dolby Vision and IMAX Ambient Optimization, which optimises picture and sound quality. High launch price makes the set vulnerable to some strong competition.
Pros
- Top-notch picture quality
- Excellent HDR performance
- Impressive sound system
Cons
- No Dolby Vision
- No HDR10+ support
tomsguide[6]
Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)Samsung's Tizen OS platform offers a broad selection of apps, so everyone in your home can stream the content they want. When you're not watching TV, you can initiate a screensaver-style, low-power Ambient mode that displays artwork or weather updates. The Samsung Q80T comes with Samsung's slender remote, which is comfortable to hold.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Tizen OS platform offers a broad selection of apps
Cons
- Lacks Dolby Atmos support
- No built-in Dolby Vision
trustedreviews[7]
Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)80T produces punchy and vibrant images in HDR. Lightsabers have a vigour to their hue, while the fight on Mustafar produces reds and oranges of eye-catching intensity. Highlights don’t have the intensity of Sony’s FALD sets, but blooming is less noticeable. A slight issue with the Q80T is that its dimming system can be overzealous with applying brightness to subtitles.
Pros
- Excellent upscaling of sub-4K content
- Wide soundstage
Cons
- Dismal blooming
- No Dolby Vision support
whathifi[8]
Reviewer score 88% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Q80T is the lowest model in Samsung's 2020 TV range to get the company's new Object Tracking Sound technology. While the Q95T has eight drivers, this cheaper model has six: two mid-range drivers and two woofers along the bottom, and two extra drivers at the top. There's no surround effect as such (nor would you expect one), but the bullets fired at K's car in Blade Runner 2049 emerge into the room satisfyingly. It's a significantly more open and solid sound than expected at this price, particularly from a TV with more or less invisible speakers.
Pros
- Gorgeous picture
- Excellent motion handling
- Solid sound
Cons
- No surround effect
wired[9]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Q80T's 55-inch screen has everything I'd look for in a modern display. Local dimming means blacker blacks and the layer of quantum crystals (QLED) really does enhance color accuracy. HDMI 2.1 support allows it to output a 120-Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Excellent local dimming
- Excellent cable routing
Cons
- No Dolby Vision or HDR10+
- Lacks Dolby Atmos
