Product Overview

SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary is an ultra-telephoto zoom lens in a lightweight and compact body.
The lens's state-of-art optical design technology ensures edge-to-edge high-resolution and high-contrast image quality throughout the entirety of its focal range, rivaling that of standard zoom lenses.
With the optics design specifically for a camera with a short flange back distance, the DG DN series of lenses achieves a supreme combination of optical performance and compactness that could not have been possible with lenses for single-lens reflex cameras. Thanks to the stepping motor system that is optimized for both phase detection AF and contrast AF, the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary makes shooting with the video or eye-tracking AF a smooth experience.

Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Sigma 100-400mm DG DN is one of the cheapest ways to enjoy the reach of 400mm on a full-frame mirrorless camera. Available in Sony e and L-mount versions, it’s dust and splash resistant, focuses fairly swiftly and quietly, has optical stabilisation and supports an optional tripod collar accessory that was not available on the earlier DSLR version.
Pros
  • Fast autofocus
  • Dust and splash resistant
  • Autofocus with face and eye detection
Cons
  • No tripod collar

The Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary Lens is a bargain. It is compatible with all Sony E-mount mirrorless ("DN") cameras, including both full-frame ("DG") and APS-C sensor format models. The lens has a 1/3-stop max aperture advantage at most focal lengths.
Pros
  • Full-featured lens
  • 1/3-stop max aperture at most focal lengths
  • Compatible with all Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras
Cons
  • No tripod mount

Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The 100-400mm Contemporary can focus to 3.6 feet (1.1 meter) You can get fairly close-up shots, but the lens is a bit shy of a macro. Resolution is excellent at 200mm (4,700 lines), even at the wide-open f/5.6 aperture. In-camera corrections curb distortion and vignetting.
Pros
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Excellent image quality
  • Wide-open f/5.6 aperture
Cons
  • No teleconverters
  • No telephoto zoom

Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Sigma 100-400mm F5-F6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary (1000 euros) is a very good lens for the price and will ideally complement the on a A7III, A9 or A7RIII. The focal range makes it very versatile for sports, portrait, landscape or animals, but if you intend to use it mostly at around 400mm you may want to look at the more suited for pure animals/birds shooting. Flare resistance is better on the Sony The background blur, bokeh balls, color rendition are excellent on both lenses.
Pros
  • Very versatile for sports, portrait, landscape or animals
  • Large aperture (F6.3) and high speed required for the focal length (1/250sec to 1/500sec)
Cons
  • Not as sharp as the Sony FE 100-400mm OSS F4.5-F5.6
