Product Overview

Audi A7 C8 (Typ 4K8) is an executive sedan in production from 2017. It is available with a range of inline-4 and V6 engines that displaced 2.0 to 3.0 liters.
Like the C8 A6 on which it is based, the A7 has grown in size compared to its predecessor. Audi also introduced A7L in 2021, specifically designed and assembled in China, to lure local consumers. Unfortunately, all the sloping roofline and giant wheels and front grille make the A7 an uglier cousin to the A6.
Audi has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.27 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Audi A7 C8 comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
Mild-hybrid technology has made its way into the latest A7. This comprises of a 48-volt primary electrical system that can allow the Audi’s V6 to shut down when coasting between 34 and 99mph. It also uses a belt alternator starter to restart the engine when you touch the throttle. Noise from the 3.0-litre diesel engine is well isolated at a cruise, and even under heavy acceleration the sound it produces wouldn't be best described as unpleasant.

Pros
  • Sophisticated looks
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Ridiculous infotainment system
  • Poor ride quality

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The A7 Sportback takes much of the technology recently introduced on the flagship A8, including a raft of driver assistance features. Inside, the dashboard is dominated by the twin touchscreen MMI system – featuring 10.1in and 8.6in displays. The 55 TFSI engine had power in abundance, delivered smoothly and quietly in largely fuss-free fashion.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Rugged ride
  • Rougher than expected ride

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
Audi A7 55 TFSIe quattro is a plug-in hybrid version of the A7 Sportback. It mates a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine to an electric motor powered by a 14.1kWh battery. The engine and motor combine for 362bhp, with a 0-62mph time of 5.6 secs and a limited top speed of 155.3mph. The A7 can travel a claimed 26 miles on electric-only power, at speeds of up to 84mph.

Pros
  • Sleek, stylish interior
  • Smooth electric-only cruising
Cons
  • Lack of practicality
  • Alternatives offer more practicality

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
Audi Sport has added individually configurable settings. Two new driving modes help to distinguish the RS7's driving experience. Handling is ever secure and precise, and quite agile and wieldy-feeling in tighter corners. Body control is tight but very seldom tetchy, even in RS7s fitted with coil suspension. Ride is fairly supple and quiet most of the time.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Superb handling
Cons
  • Not as fast as rivals

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Audi A7 Sportback is a premium model with a more practical hatchback body. It has a sporty look courtesy of its wide, long and low dimensions, while a price range starting from around £48,000 emphasises its premium status. The A7's petrol and diesel engines are strong performers, and thanks to new mild hybrid tech, the official economy figures are impressive.

Pros
  • Fastest petrol and diesel engines
  • Cheaper than rivals
Cons
  • Not as fun to drive as a Porsche Panamera
  • Alternatives are more practical

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The new Audi A7 Sportback impresses with its exec credentials and cutting-edge tech. The 282bhp 3.0-litre V6 50 TDI unit is smooth and strong, and uses 48-volt mild-hybrid technology in a bid to boost efficiency as well. The 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit is familiar from other models, but like the new A8 flagship limousine, it's a higher resolution here and works beautifully.

Pros
  • Brilliant tech
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment
Cons
  • A little sluggish on the motorway
  • No automatic gearbox

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
wheel drive except the 201bhp 3.0 TDI, but this was offered with 4WD from summer 2011. Most wheel sizes are fine, but really big rims produce quite a harsh ride, especially on S line suspension. Quattro cars are a little thirstier than those with front-wheel drive, although they're also much better at putting their power down. No A7 is spartan, because even entry-level versions have a 10-speaker hi-fi, nav, automatic lights and wipers.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Ridiculously big rims
  • Poor ride quality

The A7 Sportback 55 TFSIe is one of the best plug-in hybrids on sale. It can reach 62mph in 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. The car can travel for about 26 miles on electric power alone, thanks to a 14.1kWh battery that'll take about two and a half hours to charge.

Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Impressive hybrid tech
Cons
  • A little fiddly to use
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive

The Audi S7 is the performance flagship of the stylish A7 range. Sharing its twin-turbo V8 with the S6 and S8 it has 414bhp and 550Nm of torque. The beautifully designed and finished cabin is first-rate. A pair of decent sized rear seats and a hatchback tailgate mean it's a practical choice.

Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Impressive V8 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Cheap to run
  • Lacklustre fuel economy

autoexpress[10]

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
Audi S7 starts from £68,680, the S6 saloon undercuts it by £8,460. While the old V8 offered up a fairly hefty 550Nm of torque, it can't come close to the diesel's maximum of 700Nm. There's a glorious triple-display layout for the infotainment functions. The front seats are supportive and adjustable, and the steering wheel looks great and isn't too thick. It's less roomy in the back, although the hatchback boot makes for a practical load space.

Pros
  • Gorgeous styling
  • Great infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacklustre power
  • Not as fast as the S6

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The new A7 is based on the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform, which means there's plenty of advanced tech here. The 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel makes sense in a big car such as this, giving lots of torque for easy, unruffled performance. The steering is typically Audi, with a nice rate (the rear-axle steer on our model felt natural, too), a good weight and enough accuracy. The interior quality doesn't lose marks, but next to the Audi there are a few shinier plastics that don't feel quite as upmarket as the Audi.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment tech
Cons
  • Not quite as comfortable as the A7
  • Lacklustre ride quality

carmagazine[12]

Reviewer score 61%
Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
The A7 is one of the most advanced cars on the road in this respect. You can park it in a garage or bay from the outside, and actually drive completely hands-free in traffic at speeds of up to 37mph. UK law doesn't currently allow you to use any of that tech, so it won't be enabled from launch. Other engines, including four-pots and an RS7 will follow, but for now that's your lot.

Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Powerful engines
  • Impressive refinement
Cons
  • Lack of four-wheel steering
  • No automatic gearbox

carmagazine[13]

Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
The Audi S7 can get away with being competent and planted without having to worry too much about being exciting and life-affirming. The new engine's torque figure trumps the old car's 406lb ft, and the 35.8mpg it promises will mean a greater range and longer between fill ups. It's so smooth and refined with devastatingly accessible power – it'll be a genuine shame when such easily summoned torque is no longer viable.

Pros
  • Powerful diesel engine
  • Impressive range
  • Excellent handling
Cons
  • Lacklustre petrol engine

The 2019 Audi A7 is a luxury and tech superstar, but it's really quite nice to drive. The controls are all nicely weighted, with effortless yet responsive steering. Power comes from a 3.0-liter, turbocharged V6 engine, with 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Pros
  • Gorgeous design
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment tech
Cons
  • Lack of standard equipment

In Europe, Audi will offer two different exhaust systems -- standard and optional RS sport plumbing. The US will go without Europe's optional flat-bottomed Alcantara-wrapped sport wheel. There will be no mistaking the RS7 for an S7 or A7 this time.

Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Sleek, comfortable cabin
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Expensive compared to the standard A7
  • Lidar and zFAS not available in the US

cnet[16]

Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The Audi RS7 is an incredibly agile thing, with nicely weighted and communicative steering. The car's Sportback shape means it's far more capacious with 24 feet of space behind the rear seats. The only thing that comes close is Audi's own RS6 Avant or a run-the-mill crossover.

Pros
  • Superb all-wheel-drive performance
  • Comfortable ride
  • Lots of driver-assistance tech
Cons
  • More expensive than rivals

Kharma Elegance S7 Signature (with a driver from the Exquisite series) with the Goldmund Telos 7. The presentation is very neutral and linear and highly revealing. The treble is deliciously airy and very expressive but never hard or forward. The midrange is wide-open and communicative while deep, powerful and well-controlled bass completes the sonic picture.

Pros
  • Super-sophisticated sound
  • High resolution and transparency
  • Excellent build quality
Cons
  • Only one driver

whathifi[18]

Reviewers from whathifi have found the following***:
The Edwards Audio IA7 has bags of energy and punch, and its penchant for really deep, lush basslines is extremely satisfying. Basslines are joyfully deep, whether it's the funky, squelchy textures in Sbtrkt's Wildfire, the taut thrumming in Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, or the all-encompassing crescendo in Hans Zimmer's Inception score. While the overall sound could be cleaner and crisper, the IA7 veers on just the right side of being a punchy and smooth listen.

Pros
  • Gorgeous, muscular sound
  • Deep, lush basslines
  • Comfortable remote control
Cons
  • Not as punchy as rivals
