History
Hasselblad is a Swedish manufacturer of high-end photographic cameras, lenses, and equipment. It is best known for its storied line of medium format cameras, including the one used on the moon landing during the Apollo program.
Founded in 1841 in Gothenburg as a trading company, Hasselblad started distributing photographic equipment as the founder's son was enthusiastic about photography. Since the 1940s, Hasselblad started making first military and then civilian cameras. The company had its biggest break in the 1950s with the success of the 500 C camera and the adoption by NASA.
In recent years, Hasselblad has shrunk in size due to late move to digital and the decline of the camera market. Still, Hasselblad continues to manufacture some of the most exclusive camera systems in the industry today.
