History
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is an Italian maker of luxury sports cars. It is owned by the Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary Audi. Lamborghini is known for its rear-mid-engine layout and the naturally-aspirated V12 engine since its launch.
History
Lamborghini was founded in 1963 to produce refined grand touring cars to compete with GT models from Ferrari, which was already well-established at the time. That led to the development of 350 GT and 400 GT, which were more modern than the comparable Ferrari models.
The first iconic Lamborghini, however, was the Miura with its transversely-mounted V12 sitting behind the driver's cabin yet in front of the rear axle, the first to do so. Over the decades, Lamborghini has produced a series of supercars known both for their raw performance and for their distinct, eye-catching designs. Many have frequented posters as a result.
After Ferruccio Lamborghini's retirement, the company changed hands a few times. Eventually, in 1999 it came under Audi AG, which is itself owned by Volkswagen.
Current Lineup
Lamborghini currently has a small vehicle lineup, as the marque always did:
- Aventador: V12-powered flagship supercar
- Huracan: V10-powered sports car
- Urus: bi-turbo V8-powered crossover
