History
Lincoln is a luxury vehicle division of the American automotive company Ford. Currently, Lincoln is the only luxury brand under Ford, with a lineup that range from sedans and crossovers to SUVs.
History
Founded in 1917 and named after Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln Motor Company first assembled Liberty V12 aircraft engines for WWI. After the war, it was reorganized as an automaker. During this period, it was acquired by Ford in 1922 and became the luxury division of the parent company, serving as a direct competitor to Cadillac.
In the 1950s, Ford briefly created the Continental Division slotted above Lincoln as the flagship marque. The Continental Mark II established the personal luxury car segment that debuted with the Lincoln Continental before the war broke out.
Having produced a long line of commercially successful luxury vehicles, Lincoln fell into decline in the 1980s. It was not until the launch of the full-size luxury SUV Lincoln Navigator that the trend was reversed.
Current Lineup
The current vehicle lineup of Lincoln includes two sedans (Continental and MKZ), three crossovers (Aviator, Nautilus, and Corsair), and an SUV (Navigator).
