History
Subaru is the automobile manufacturing division of the Japanese transportation conglomerate Subaru Corporation. Subaru is best known for the use of boxer engine with symmetrical all wheel drive.
History
Between 1953 and 1955, half a dozen industrial firms merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries, which started manufacturing cars in 1954 using the Subaru brand. In 1968, Nissan acquired a 20.4% stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, allowing the two to start sharing parts.
As Nissan joined force with Renault in 1999, its stake in Fuji Heavy Industries was sold to General Motors, which liquidated its holdings in 2005. Currently Toyota holds 16.5% of FHI.
