Sixty-five years since Yamaha coined the term "Hi-Fi" with the release of the Hi-Fi Player, Yamaha extends its legacy in the premium HiFi segment with the debut of the 5000 Series audiophile components.

Extension to Yamaha's Legacy

Yamaha's 1000 and 2000 series have continued to be highly regarded by audio enthusiasts, offering superior performance at lower price points than comparable products from Western competitors. Over 40 years since their introduction, they have established the reputation for their durability and serviceability.
The 5000 series builds on the success and know-how of HiFi components such as the 1000 and 2000 series. In the process, Yamaha draws on its extensive technical, engineering, design, and manufacturing expertise as the world's largest manufacturer of musical instruments. After eight years of research and development, Yamaha has finally achieved "True Sound", a Yamaha concept that strives to reproduce sound exactly as the musicians intended.
These flagship components are specifically designed and engineered to work together as a system. At launch, the 5000 series includes the GT-5000 turntable, the C-5000 preamplifier, the M-5000 stereo power amplifier, and the NS-5000 bookshelf loudspeakers.

GT-5000 Turntable

The GT-5000 inherits design characteristics of the Yamaha GT-series turntables such as the GT-2000L. "GT" stands for Gigantic and Tremendous, which refers to the hefty and solid build of the device.

In keeping with its name, the GT-5000 features a heavy 11.5 lbs / 5.2 kg outer platter made of solid, machined aluminium, and a 4.4 lbs / 2 kg inner platter made of brass. This design improves the inherent stability of the platter. Custom heavy-duty feet provide solid support for the 58.4-lbs / 26.5-kg turntable.
For optimal precision in music playback, the GT-5000 utilizes a custom belt-drive system with quartz timing. A 24-pole, 2-phase AC synchronous motor generates an accurate since wave to go with it. A short, straight tonearm made of carbon fiber and copper-plated aluminium further improves traceability on the record.

C-5000 Preamplifier

The C-5000 preamplifier features fully balanced discrete circuits: When used with balanced inputs and outputs, no conversion takes place inside the preamplifier, thus minimizing signal transmission, power supply, and ground connections.

Independent, dual toroidal transformers for the two channels set the foundation for excellent channel separation. The circuits inside the C-5000 are perfectly symmetrical, further improving balance between the two channels as the lengths of signal travel are minimized together.

The C-5000 offers six unbalanced (RCA, including phono) and four balanced (XLR) inputs, and two RCA and one XLR outputs. Trigger and remote inputs and outputs are available, too.

M-5000 Stereo Power Amplifier

Like the C-5000 preamplifier, the M-5000 power amplifier features patented floating and balanced design. As opposed to conventional power amplifier designs that supply the power via a power transistor and ground the negative polarity, M-5000 connects the power supply to each of the positive and negative sides of the output stage. As a result, the power supply of the M-5000 "floats" from the ground, eliminating undesirable impacts of voltage fluctuations and ground noise.

The massive toroidal transformer with 3-mm brass base suppresses vibrations, reduces flux leakage, and increases efficiency. In a mechanical ground design, it is fixed mechanically to the frame alongside block capacitors and heat sink. This ensures that heavy components are supported solidly, minimizing the influence of vibrations.

Components inside and outside the M-5000 consistently retain a high quality: Inside, thick wires and screw-type connections reduce the internal impedance, thus minimizing energy loss. Underneath, a custom brass feet with a scratch guard base provide exceptional stability. Up front, large, high-precision illuminated VU meters enhance the elegance of the M-5000. In the back, the power amplifier utilizes oversized, pure brass speaker terminals for exceptional elegance, durability, and reduction in distortion.

NS-5000 Bookshelf Loudspeakers

The NS-5000 loudspeakers feature 3-way bass reflex design in a comparatively compact package. Drivers in NS-5000's tweeter, midrange, and woofer all utilize diaphragms made of 100% ZYLON®. ZYLON is a synthetic fiber created in Japan that is stronger than any other known organic fibers in the world. At the same time, it boasts optimum elasticity, achieving acoustic velocity comparable to that of beryllium. The drivers also feature Yamaha's proprietary monel alloy.
The soft diaphragm suppresses peaks and dips in the frequency response caused by the inherent resonance of the diaphragm. Combined with ZYLON's high acoustic velocity, the NS-5000 produces remarkably flat frequency response across the entire frequency range.

Newly-developed Resonance Suppression Chambers mounted on the back of the tweeter and midrange drivers suppress tube resonance generated behind the diaphragm, reducing the quantity of sound-absorbing material required.
A new resonance tube cancels out internal standing waves that result from the shape of the cuboid enclosure at a specified frequency. This technology further reduces the quantity of sound-absorbing material inside.

The luxurious glossy black finish reserved for Yamaha grand pianos further increases the overall rigidity of the speakers and suppresses fine vibrations. The result is a pair of speakers luxurious to both the eyes and the ears.
