Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 is a subcompact hatchback in production from 2018. It is available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 1.3 to 2.0 liters.
Compared to the W176 A-Class, the W177 is almost just a bigger facelift. Going with the theme of modern Euro autos, the W177 received further-downsized engines and more electronic gizmos.
Another change is the strong emphasis on AWD (4MATIC), even though a small, underpowered FWD hatchback never needs AWD: just more things to sell and to repair.
Mercedes-Benz has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.25 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
For the £27,340 asked by Mercedes, you get a level of kit that hasn't left us wanting for much in these early days. The A250 is the only A-Class available now with the multi-link rear suspension, the A180d and A200 getting an eyebrow-raising torsion beam. Economy is closer to 70mpg than 60mpg (claimed: 68.9mpg)
Pros
  • Class-leading economy
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Torsion beam isn’t for everyone

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The latest Mercedes A-Class is the fourth generation of Mercedes’ smallest car. Available as a five-door hatchback and four-door saloon in the UK, it's the brand’s biggest-seller. Infotainment system is one of the best on the market at any price. Engine choices are made up of two diesels and four petrol units.
Pros
  • Cheap to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Excellent standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of practicality

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Mercedes-Benz A-class is a pretty darn good one. Still not class-leading, but competitive with the Audi A3 and BMW 1-series. All cars come standard with goodies such as sat-nav, cruise control, DAB radio, keyless ignition, crash-avoidance tech and ‘Hey Mercedes' voice-activation.
Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Excellent infotainment tech
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Not as roomy in the back as rivals
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive
