Product Overview

Renault Captur Mk2 is an entry-level subcompact crossover in production from 2019. It is available with a range of inline-3 and inline-4 engines that displaced 1.0 to 1.6 liters.
An exceptionally ugly vehicle inside and out, the Mk2 Captur is proudly less ugly than the Nissan Juke, with which it shares much of the underpinnings: another achievement of the Renault team.
The plug-in hybrid drivetrain can help the owner save on fuel and car tax, though those who plan on keeping the car after warranty should be mindful of the complexity.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The new Renault Captur feels more structurally robust, better insulated, more cushioned, quieter and decisively better finished. The cabin’s extra width, a mildly high-rise driving position, comfortable front seats and the new-found civility make journeying fairly painless. The option of traffic jam assistance, enabled via radar-governed cruise control, and lane centring – both firsts in the segment – are appealing.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of practicality
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
There are two diesel and three petrol options from launch, with a top-of-the-range plug-in hybrid option to be branded ‘E-Tech’ being added later this year. Even in mid-level ‘Iconic’ trim, as we spent the longest testing it, the cockpit looks and feels quite tactile and consistently classy. The TCE 100 motor isn’t in over its head in powering this car by any means.

Pros

Cons
  • No second-rate drive
  • Lacklustre ride quality

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The E-Tech has three confusingly named driving modes: Pure, Sport and My Sense, which you’ll know better as ‘Electric’, ‘Combustion’ and ‘Hybrid’ In the last of these, the transition between the two power sources is all but seamless, and at low revs, the petrol motor is barely more discernible than its electric team-mate. It starts to make a bit of a din when you get a hustle on, though, and remains in a low gear for some time after kickdown.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The Captur can accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.1sec, which is three-tenths of a second slower than the plug-in Mégane with which it shares its powertrain. Like the Clio supermini, the Captur’s cabin packs plenty of chic design appeal, and a fairly liberal application of soft-touch moulded plastics on the dash and doors. A sliding rear bench helps out with second-row leg room. Head room is a bit tight, and boot space takes a slight hit compared with its non-plug-in range-mates.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent handling
Cons
  • No plug-in hybrid powertrain
  • Some jostle and fuss at lower speeds

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Renault Captur has undergone a complete overhaul to help it stand out in an increasingly competitive crowd of rivals. The new five-door Captur is 110mm longer, 19mm wider and 17mm taller than the model it replaces, adding much-needed interior space for the family. It sits on the same CMF-B platform as the latest Clio, which can only be a good thing - bringing extra quality to the way the Captur steers and a comfortable ride for all on-board.

Pros
  • Stylish looks
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good standard equipment
Cons

The new Renault Captur sits on the same CMF-B platform as the latest Clio. It's 110mm longer, 19mm wider and 17mm taller than the original model. Basing it on the new Clio has transformed the driving experience. The steering is precise and gives you the confidence to place the car accurately on a narrow road.

The Renault Captur E-Tech is already proving to be a compelling proposition for anyone needing an efficient family crossover. The sliding rear bench is an added bonus, and we think our car looks the part on 18-inch alloys. The crossover has just joined our fleet – marking its debut by beating the Honda HR-V and SEAT Arona in an Auto Express group test.

Pros
  • Smooth, quiet drivetrain
  • Lots of fun to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Battery life could be better

The Nissan Juke looks distinctive and offers decent value, plus it's good to drive. The Volkswagen Group offers three alternatives: the SEAT Arona, the Skoda Kamiq and the VW T-Cross. The Hyundai Kona and Kia Stonic are related to each other; they're both well equipped, reliable and come with a generous warranty. If comfort is a priority, check out the Citroen C3 Aircross.

Pros
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Decent cabin space
Cons
  • Lack of boot space
  • Software glitches
