Product Overview

Hyundai i30 III (chassis code PD) is a compact hatchback in production from 2016 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-3 and inline-4 engines that displaced 1.0 to 2.0 liters.
Compared to the Mk2 i30, the Mk3 model received a somewhat busier exterior styling. At the same time, Hyundai is kind enough to retain the bigger I4 engines even though downsized I3 units were introduced.
The Mk3 i30's official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
For the first time, Hyundai introduced a couple of high-performance N models that optimizes driving pleasure.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 53% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
Even in Normal the i30 N feels every bit the performance car it has been designed to be. The steering is surprisingly hefty, the ride is firm but not unforgiving and there’s plenty of responsiveness from the throttle and engine. N Mode, meanwhile, isn’t for the faint of heart. Lift off the throttle after a sustained period of acceleration, and small amounts of fuel will ignite in the exhaust.
Pros
  • Engaging driving experience
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Five-year warranty
Cons
  • Ridiculously harsh ride
  • Pricier than the Golf GTI

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The i30 is the first Hyundai to get the N Line treatment. There are two trim levels and two gearbox options, linked in every case to a 138bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. N Line+ cars command a £2,000 premium over standard N Line models, but come complete with LED headlights, electric seat adjustment and heated steering wheel.
Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Excellent infotainment
Cons
  • Expensive to buy
  • Lack of refinement
