Product Overview

Hyundai i20 II (chassis code GB) is an affordable subcompact hatchback in production from 2014 to 2020. It was available with a range of inline-3 and inline-4 engines that displaced 1.0 to 1.4 liters.
Compared to the Mk1 i20, the Mk2 i20 has a much more modern exterior design. Unfortunately, Hyundai further reduced the size of the engines, though the output levels actually increased. New is a 7-speed DCT transmission.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality. Another plus is the small 10.2m (33.5ft) turning circle.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 63% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
Hyundai i20 goes on sale in Germany with 1.0-litre T-GDi petrol engine. It comes in five-door, three-door and Active variants, but the latter two sell in lower numbers in the UK and Hyundai has yet to confirm if we'll get either. The driving experience is largely unchanged, being perfectly capable of getting you from A to B without any drama - but also without much excitement. More equipment inside the cabin and safety systems as standard are both welcome inclusions.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacklustre handling
  • No automatic gearbox

Reviewer score 55% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
Citroen C3 has the best interior of the three superminis. Strong economy and an acceptably comfortable ride add to its appeal. The i20 has few dramatic flaws with a plain interior and a forgettable driving experience. The Nissan Micra is a fun rival here, but sacrifices ride comfort in the process.
Pros
  • Punchy and efficient engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment
Cons
  • Not the best to drive
