Product Overview

Renault Megane IV is an affordable compact hatchback in production from 2016 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 1.2 to 1.8 liters.
Compared to the Mk3 model, the Megane IV is more modern in styling but somewhat bland. It uses a range of further-downsized engines, while new DCTs (marketed as EDC) became available. Renault continues to use CVT on select models.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Another plus is the small 10.3m (33.8ft) turning circle.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 55% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The new Mégane RS Cup is a firm-riding hot hatch. You can quickly warm to that old-school ‘like it or lump it’ lack of compromise. The car carves its way around smooth, tight bends with such incisiveness, alacrity and balance that it takes a while to become accustomed to what it can do.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good handling
Cons
  • Bumpy ride
  • Poor infotainment system

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Renault Megane is a staple of the compact hatchback class and has been on sale since 1995. The current car is the Megane Mk4, and it was launched in 2016 after the Mk3 had a relatively long eight-year shelf life. Renault has whittled the engine range down from five to just two, one petrol and one diesel. All cars now feature sat-nav as standard, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
Pros
  • Cheap to run
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Not the sharpest car in the class

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 49% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The latest-generation Renault Megane is handsome, likeable, and a more colourful character than most mainstream hatches. But it's no game-changer. It feels as wide as it looks, with reassuringly planted handling. Supple ride, too. Key touch points – steering, pedal actions, gearchange – could offer more feedback.
Pros
  • Gorgeous design
  • Wide-ranging range of driving modes
Cons
  • Fussy infotainment system
  • Lacklustre rear legroom
