Product Overview

Audi S1 (Typ 8X) is the performance version of the subcompact hatchback, Audi A1 in production from 2014 to 2018. It was available with a single inline-4 petrol engine that displaced 2.0 liters paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Like the S1 Sportback, with which the S1 shares just about everything except for the door and seating arrangement, a part-time AWD system is introduced. Unfortunately, the engine is not quite powerful as one would expect from an "S" car.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Audi S1 uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance; still, this is as good as it gets in this class of vehicles.

Reviewer score 55% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
Audi's smallest hot hatch is quick, safe, and definitely has a more upmarket feel than most of its rivals. The car feels grown-up when you want it to be and is comfortable on the motorway. Find your favourite back road, though, and the chassis is good enough to provide excitement around the bends. The major downside is the S1's price, especially once you've ticked a few option boxes.
Pros
  • Fun to drive
  • Excellent cabin quality
Cons
  • Pricey compared to rivals
  • Not as fun to drive
