Product Overview

Audi S1 Sportback (Typ 8X) is the performance variant of the subcompact hatchback, A1 Sportback in production from 2014 to 2018. It was sold with a single inline-4 engine that displaced 2.0 liters mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Unlike the standard A1 Sportback, the S1 Sportback sends power to all four wheels via a Haldex on-demand AWD system. As as result, it also comes with multi-link rear suspensions to accommodate the driveshafts.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Audi S1 Sportback uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance. Still, this is as good as it gets for this class from Germany.

Reviewer score 58% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The S1 is a mass-produced version of 2012's A1 Quattro, of which just 333 were made. The EA888 engine might share its origins with the lump in the Golf GTI, but it feels far lustier here. It chucks the Audi to 62mph in a scorching 5.8 seconds, and you can feel the system working overtime to get all 228 ponies to the tarmac. The body control feels excellent, but the Swedish roads we tested on suggested the S1 would feel choppy back home.
Pros
  • Fantastic performance
  • Quattro four-wheel drive
  • Powerful engine
Cons
  • No dual-clutch gearbox
  • Not the most fun to drive
