Product Overview

BMW 5 Series G30 is an executive sedan in production from 2017 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It is available with a range of inline-4, inline-6, and V8 engines that displaced 2.0 to 4.4 liters.
Owners will probably enjoy the powerful V8 the most. Even though the N63 engine has never been truly reliable since its introduction, after close to a decade of production it has the most troubling issues ironed out. However, DIYers should certainly think twice before jumping on it.
In its stead, the B58-powered 540i could be a much more sensible choice: The I6 is notably more reliable and is marginally DIY-able.
Engineers at BMW clearly made a great effort in aerodynamics, with a class-leading 0.22 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality. The G30 also comes with a high towing capacity.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the G30 comes with double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspensions. This provides the great cornering performance and tunability.
