Product Overview

Samyang 50mm F1.2 AS UMC CS is a large-aperture manual-focus short telephoto prime lens for Canon EF-M-mount, Fujifilm X-mount, Micro Four Thirds-mount, and Sony E-mount. It covers the APS-C image circle. Introduced by Samyang in 2015, it has 9 elements in 7 groups.
Manual focus may be limiting to some, but purists will find it much more engaging. There are also fewer things to go wrong on the long run. Unfortunately, Samyang has opted to omit weather sealing for this lens, so owners should pay extra attention when shooting in incremental weathers.
A telephoto prime lens, the Samyang 50mm F1.2 AS UMC CS is well suited for portrait photography.

Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Samyang 50mm F1.2 ED UMC CS (480 euros) is certainly the best APSC 50mm available for Sony E mount. The lens is quite big and heavy for an APSC lens. The tests were made on a Sony A6000 with its 24 Mpix, An exceptional performance with corners as sharp as the centre!
Pros
  • Excellent sharpness, including at F1.2 (very good)
  • Excellent background blur
  • Very good color rendition
  • No distorsion, good resistance to flare and very low CA
Cons
  • High price than the others but it I fully worth it
