Product Overview

SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Sports is a super telephoto zoom lens in the SIGMA Sports line. It is designed natively for E-mount and L-mount mirrorless systems.
This super telephoto lens comes with SIGMA's OS (Optical Stabilizer) that provides 4 stops of image stabilization, which these days is essential for lenses in this focal range. It has SIGMA's Dual Action Zoom, meaning that the photographer can choose to zoom by directly pulling the front of the lens without damaging the lens' internal mechanism.
The 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS is compatible with SIGMA's 1.4x and 2x L-mount teleconverters, the latter of which doubles the lens' reach to 1200mm. It is dust and moisture resistant and comes with a couple of customizable buttons; photographers shooting outdoors in fast-paced environments will appreciate these features.
In many ways, this Sports lens is similar to the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary, though it obviously has more reach.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
Focus accuracy and repeatability is critical to consistently produce sharp shots. At 200mm focal length the lens focuses in around 0.7 sec from infinity to 2.08m (1:10 magnification) In darker conditions (+5EV) I encountered a lot of hunting at focal lengths of 300mm and beyond. The focus ring is 15mm wide and is located just in front of the tripod mount.
Pros
  • 4x / 150-600mm zoom lens
  • Sharpness at 600mm focal length
  • Good image stabilization
Cons
  • Lack of focus breathing at close focusing distances

dpreview[2]

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from dpreview have found:
The Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Sports is available on both the Sony E-mount as well as for L-mount cameras from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. It's a very sharp lens that's not as bulky or expensive as you might expect for its focal range and maximum aperture. Our major reservations are really around its autofocus speeds. But once you consider its all-weather versatility, an effective four-stop image stabilizer a very reasonable price, it's easy to recommend.
Pros
  • Excellent autofocus performance
  • Excellent zoom torque control
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Lack of teleconverters for E-mount

pcmag[3]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
Sigma has put its best foot forward with the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports. Its first made-for-mirrorless Sports lens cuts nearly two pounds from its predecessor. Optical stabilization is included, with a toggle to swap between modes for static photography.
Pros
  • Fast continuous drive
  • Excellent image stabilization
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • No teleconverters
  • Limited focus range

sonyalpha[4]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS delivers very good image quality, very sharp, very good bokeh balls, very soft blurry background and very good color rendition. The Sigma is excellent in the low end but performance decrease at 600mm. Main differences are in term of price / ergonomics / TCs, focal length and AF.
Pros
  • Very good image quality with plenty of sharpness on 24/42mpix
  • Very fast and efficient AF for standard situations
  • Very good bokeh balls, very soft blurry background and very good color rendition
Cons
  • Lagging behind the Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS (2000 euros)
  • Not unleashing the full potential of a A9 (20fps) or a A1
