External Reviews

digitaltrends[1]

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
Most will be perfectly happy with this TV in Standard (the horror!) or Movie mode. Brightness is sufficient, but some of the extra bleak content like Netflix's Dark is a bit of a challenge to watch during the day. Samsung says the TU8000 has gamer features that reduce latency, but this TV does not have a variable refresh rate.
Pros
  • Great 1080p upscaling
  • Great sound quality
  • Great gaming performance
Cons
  • Vignetting can be distracting
  • No variable refresh rate

pcmag[2]

Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Samsung TU8000 doesn't offer the most impressive picture, but its contrast and color accuracy are adequate for the platform. It lacks the quantum dot technology found in both Vizio's and Samsung's higher-end TVs. It edges out the Vizio M-Series Quantum with its superior black level and voice assistant support. The Hisense H8G is the best choice in this price range, but you can get better color and contrast from the TCL 6-Series.
Pros
  • Decent color accuracy
  • Wide color range
  • Supports Google Cast
Cons
  • Mediocre black levels
  • Lacks quantum dot technology

rtings[3]

Reviewer score 36% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Samsung TU8000 is a decent TV for a variety of uses. Its high contrast ratio produces deep blacks, so it performs well in dark rooms. However, it doesn't get very bright, so highlights fail to pop in HDR, and it may struggle with glare in bright rooms. On the upside, it has an outstanding contrast ratio, resulting in deep blacks.
Pros
  • Outstanding contrast ratio produces deep blacks
  • Decently fast response time
  • Low input lag
Cons
  • Doesn't get very bright
  • No local dimming feature
  • Narrow viewing angles

techradar[4]

Reviewer score 67% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Lack of wide colour gamut means you're unlikely to be blown away by the out-and-out vibrancy of the TU8000. More capable sets will offer up a bit more by way of depth and extra fine detail, but for a mid-range TV, there's very little to grumble about here. Colours are well judged too, and there's enough natural punch here to keep the picture engaging.
Pros
  • Excellent picture quality
  • Good contrast
Cons
  • No Dolby Vision support
  • Poor viewing angles

whathifi[5]

Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from whathifi have found:
The TX-58HX800 has top levels of shading and punch in the same TV. It's the kind of performance you'd pay a lot more for with QLED and OLED technology. There's also a depth of black on the Samsung that the Panasonic can't quite match. While the audio is only par for the course, everything else in its class is too.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K picture
  • Impressive blackness
Cons
  • Underwhelming audio
