Product Overview

The 2021 ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE is ASUS's flagship, dual-screen gaming laptop powered by AMD Ryzen processors and up to NVIDIA RTX 3080 graphics.
Sharing the same dimensions as its Intel-powered predecessor, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE shares much of the same features as the 2020 model. It remains the only gaming laptop from a major manufacturer that comes with the convenience of two displays, though it now uses a FHD ScreenPad Plus secondary display rather than a 4K one.
Alongside the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, ASUS also refreshed the ROG Strix G15, Strix G17, Strix SCAR 15, Strix SCAR 17, Flow X13, Zephyrus G14, and Zephyrus G15 at CES 2021.

Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 GXS is packed with new hardware to outperform the previous model by quite a wide margin. Running Witcher 3 consumes about 181 W to be 20 percent more demanding than last year's GX550. The raw graphics boost is much greater, however, meaning performance-per-watt is still in favor of the newer GX551. Charging from empty to full takes about 2 to 2.5 hours.
Pros
  • Bright 120 Hz 4K panel
  • Slim bezels
  • Long battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3

pcmag[2]

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Zephyrus Duo GX551's performance is undeniably high, but not quite commensurate with its stratospheric price. It's hard to see why you'd pay a lot more for a GeForce RTX 3080 laptop over an RTX 3070 model. The Duo won't last you all day, but it won't die after a measly two hours like some gaming laptops.
Pros
  • Powerful GeForce RTX 3080 GPU
  • High-quality dual UHD screens
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Middling performance
  • No Thunderbolt 3 port

t3[3]

Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from t3 have found:
The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is one of the best gaming laptops of 2020. It has an eight-core Intel Core i9-10980HK processor plus an Nvidia RTX 2080 Super Max-Q graphics chip. Under heavy load though, this laptop does run rather hot and loud. While we like the imagination of the second screen, it's not all that useful right now.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K screen
  • Impressive performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Not the best value for money
  • Second screen isn't for everyone

techradar[4]

Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551 is a 4K gaming powerhouse. Powered by an octa-core AMD processor that can boost its 16 threads up to 4.6 GHz. The 4K screen gets a boost from the previous generation's 60Hz to 120Hz, and looks magnificent with it. There's a massive amount of storage, and a full 32GB RAM on board.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K screen
  • Superb CPU and GPU performance
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Quite heavy
  • No Thunderbolt 3

tomshardware[5]

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomshardware have found:
The ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551 arguably represents the epitome of gaming laptop design. While its frame rates weren't quite as high as the more traditional MSI GP66 Leopard at 1080p, it excelled at 4K and particularly in productivity tasks. The company's ScreenPad Plus hardware and software combo continue to get better, making the dual-screen experience feel more functional.
Pros
  • Comfortable keyboard and touchpad
  • Solid performance for a gaming laptop
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No webcam

trustedreviews[6]

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The GX551 comes with two 4W speakers and two 2W tweeters. Audio is loud, clear and well-balanced, with powerful bass that’s never overwhelming. The AMD processor is a beast. In PCMark 10 and Geekbench, it outpaced the high-end Intel CPU used in the Aorus – and virtually everything else in laptops. The machine does have to balance CPU and GPU power consumption.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K screen
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3
