Product Overview

The 2021 ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (G733) is a 17.3-inch gaming laptop powered by AMD Ryzen processors and NVIDIA RTX 30-series graphics. It is lighter and more compact than its Intel-powered predecessor.
Like the SCAR 15 G533, the ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 can be configured with either a 300Hz FHD display or a 165Hz QHD panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. Both comes with 3ms response time as well as extended RGB lighting. It also keeps the mechanical keyboard with per-key RGB lighting.
Additionally, the G733 is newly compatible with up to 64GB of DDR4 3200MHz memory. WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 also come as standard.
Alongside the Strix SCAR G17, ASUS also refreshed the ROG Strix G15, Strix G17, Strix SCAR 15, Flow X13, Zephyrus G14, Zephyrus G15, and Zephyrus Duo 15 SE at CES 2021.

Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
The ROG Strix Scar 17 does not come with an integrated webcam. While it's somewhat excusable on its incomparably priced Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, the exclusion of a webcam on a $3,000 laptop doesn't add up. The Alienware m17 R4 delivers higher performance in several demanding games.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 360Hz display
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Dashing display
  • No webcam

notebookcheck[2]

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
We're able to get almost 9.5 hours of real-world WLAN use when on the Balanced power profile with the iGPU active compared to several hours shorter on the older Strix Scar 17 G732LXS. The larger 90 Wh battery is a major contributing factor to the generally longer battery life. The forced mechanical keys may be great for LAN parties, but the loud key clatter can be a nuisance in most other scenarios.
Pros
  • Gorgeous, colorful design
  • Strong performance-per-watt performance
  • Comfortable keyboard
Cons
  • Loud fan noise when gaming
  • No Thunderbolt 3 or G-Sync
  • No SD card reader

Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Asus ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 is one of the latest gaming laptops. It comes with Nvidia's new RTX 3000 series of laptop graphics cards. This is currently the most powerful graphics card you can get in a gaming laptop. The model we reviewed comes with a 300Hz refresh rate screen. In day-to-day use, Windows 10 performs brilliantly. The 32GB of RAM ensures that this is an impressive multitasking laptop.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 1080p screen
  • Great gaming performance
Cons
  • Battery life could be better

tomshardware[4]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomshardware have found:
At $3,000, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 G733 is an expensive laptop, period. But it's still a bit less costly than some other RTX 3080 laptops like the Alienware m17 R4 and the new ROG Zephyrus Duo. The Strix's physical design is made for gamers, with some throwback elements.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • 360Hz display
  • Comfortable keyboard
Cons
  • Only one pre-installed bloatware program
