Product Overview

Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 1 is a high-end tablet powered by laptop-level Intel Core processors in a 3:2 aspect ratio. It shares most features with the standard ThinkPad X1 Carbon but offers more versatility.
Thanks to Intel's new 11th-gen Core processors, the new X12 Detachable brings a Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4.0 port with even faster connectivity compared to Thunderbolt 3. It further includes 4G LTE WWAN besides WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 to ensure high-speed wireless connection wherever you go.
Essentially, the X12 Detachable is a middle ground between tablet and laptop, offering significant boost in power over the former and increased versatility over conventional 2-in-1 laptops. The X12 Detachable also brings the power, security, and durability of a true ThinkPad.
Alongside the new X12 Detachable, Lenovo also unveiled several other models in the ThinkPad X1 lineup at CES 2021, including the refreshed X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga as well as the all-new X1 Titanium Yoga.

Reviewers from laptopmag have found the following***:
The X12 relies on integrated Iris Xe graphics. This chip is good for only lightweight gaming and less graphics-intensive workflows. Opting for the more efficient CPU paid off in our battery testing. The 12.3-inch display is adequately bright and vivid, and the detachable keyboard is comfortable.

Pros
  • Lightweight and lightweight chassis
  • Excellent battery life
  • Comfortable keyboard
Cons
  • Lackluster speakers

Reviewers from notebookcheck have found the following***:
The Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable runs cooler, quieter and longer. There are no compromises in terms of the build quality or the input devices. A robust and lightweight Magnesium chassis meets a very good ThinkPad keyboard with TrackPoint. The keyboard cover is one of the best in the detachable scene, despite the lower key travel.

Pros
  • High-quality Magnesium chassis
  • Very good keyboard
  • Long battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 4
  • No Thunderbolt 3

The ThinkPad X12 has a 12-inch display, an integrated kickstand that helps you prop up the tablet on your desk, and an optional cover with an integrated keyboard and touchpad. The screen measures 12.3 inches on the diagonal, and its 3:2 aspect ratio gives it dimensions of 1,920 by 1,280 pixels. Lenovo will also offer this tablet with a vPro-equipped Core i7, and up to 1TB of storage.

Pros
  • Comfortable keyboard and touchpad
  • Excellent battery life
  • Solid performance
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 4

techradar[4]

Reviewer score 78%
Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable is more like a tablet with a keyboard than a proper 2-in-1 hybrid. It can run Windows 10 Pro and it does it very well. The keyboard itself works well enough, and the rubber connector band tilts the keyboard up a bit when attached to the tablet.

Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Good battery life
  • Built-in fingerprint scanner
Cons
  • Lackluster performance

theverge[5]

Reviewer score 85%
Reviewers from theverge have found the following***:
The X12 has a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is my favorite aspect ratio. It's much roomier than a traditional 16:9 display, providing noticeably more vertical space. The top and side bezels are chunky, which may put some people off. The X12 also has an IR camera that supports Windows Hello facial recognition.

Pros
  • Great build quality
  • Solid performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Touchpad is a bit small
  • Touchpad isn’t the smoothest around

tomshardware[6]

Reviewer score 84%
Reviewers from tomshardware have found the following***:
The ThinkPad X12 Detachable is almost free of bloat, and its few pre-installs are helpful and easy-to-use. Like most ThinkPads, there's a physical shutter for the X12's front webcam, although the back webcam has no such feature. Glance by Mirametrix is an optional feature that you can set to move windows or the mouse cursor.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Powerful performance
  • Excellent keyboard and folio keyboard
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3 port

wired[7]

Reviewer score 83%
Reviewers from wired have found the following***:
The ThinkPad X12 Detachable is neither the best laptop you can buy nor the best tablet. It is pretty good at being both of those things in a single package. Like other detachables, it works as an all-browsing machine, editing documents, video calls, and more.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Good battery life
  • Comfortable keyboard
Cons
  • Keyboard is unresponsive
