Product Overview

LG C1 is a full-featured 4K OLED TV in LG's 2021 smart TV lineup. An upgrade from last year's CX, the C1 features LG's latest α (Alpha) 9 Gen 4 AI processor as well as all the bells and whistles consumers have come to expect from the finest from the South Korean brand.
Like its predecessor, the C1 continues to sport LG's latest OLED display panel, aided with a full set of digital image and audio processing functionalities. Some such protocols include Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, and Filmmaker Mode.
Now more than ever, LG is pushing for pushing its OLED TVs for productivity and gaming. The C1 not only supports G-Sync and FreeSync Premium from the get go but also drives at 120Hz native refresh rate. There is also a planned update in late 2021 to make this TV compatible with Stadia cloud gaming.
Besides the full-featured C1, LG's 2021 OLED TV lineup also includes the Gallery-series G1 and 8K Z1 unveiled with the C1 at CES 2021 as well as B1 and A1 to be introduced later in the year.

Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The two LG OLEDs looked consistently better than the TCL in most scenes. The C1 and CX looked vibrant and powerful, even with their slightly dimmer highlights. Game Optimizer is best for gaming, thanks to its processing but quite blue. For the best color accuracy, adjust color temperature control all the way toward red.

    Pros
    • Excellent image quality with HDR
    • Accurate grayscale and color
    • Bright enough for gaming
    Cons
    • Lacks brightness of the TCL or other high-end LCDs

The LG C1 OLED carries the torch as the best OLED TV choice on the market. The stutter issue has to do with how long a TV has to hold an image before it displays the next frame. If you don't mind soap opera effect, turn on motion smoothing and you're golden.

    Pros
    • Gorgeous design

LG's C1 OLED TV is a marvel of picture quality. Its color and contrast are among the best we've seen on any television. Along with strong audio, the C1 is utterly packed with features for gaming. It's pricier than Vizio's significantly dimmer OLED model, but it's much less expensive than the Sony Master Series A90J while offering better performance.

The LG C1 48 is an excellent overall TV that we tested as a monitor. Since it has a ton more features than a normal monitor, it excels in a few areas. It's excellent for gaming because it has VRR support, a very quick response time, and low input lag. The 48 inch screen is big enough for an immersive viewing experience, and it has wide viewing angles.

The LG C1 is an amazing all-around TV. It has stunning picture quality thanks to its near-infinite contrast ratio. The near-instant response time makes motion look exceptionally clear in fast-moving games and sports. While it doesn't get very bright for HDR, its high contrast helps it deliver a satisfying experience.

LG's AI Picture Pro picture system has had a deep learning performance bump this season. Image gradations are effortless, thanks to improvements in dynamic tone mapping. Pictures look smoother, almost photographic. The set's latency performance is very good for gaming. The screen has volume – output is rated at 40W cumulative - and boasts Dolby Atmos decoding.

LG is one of the few TV manufacturers using WebOS, even after the company announced plans to license the operating system to other brands. Dolby Atmos immersive audio is supported, as is the WiSA multi-channel wireless audio standard. Soundtracks came across clearly, with some actual bass emanating from the down-firing speakers.

    • Gorgeous OLED panel
    • Wide array of video formats
    • WebOS is easy to use

Google Stadia comes built-in for cloud gaming without a box, while two smart assistants are here once again in 2021: Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The Alpha a9 Gen 4 processor does an excellent job at upscaling. Films from the mid-2000s look like they were shot and distributed in 4K despite being streamed in HD. The only real issue we noticed is that, if you don't have sound leveling turned on, audio can be a bit all over the place – meaning you'll hear booming bass and nearly sibilant highs.

    Pros
    • Dolby Atmos and HDR10+ support
    • Improved motion processing
    Cons
    • Audio can be a bit over-the-top
    • No Dolby Vision support

The LG C1 OLED is a superb TV, and in many respects, it's close to perfect. The picture quality is fantastic. The gaming performance and features are second to none. The sound quality needs a little tweaking to get it dialed in, but between AI optimization and adjustments for personal preference, it goes from good to great very quickly.

    Pros
    • Great gaming performance
    • Excellent smart TV features
    • Excellent remote
    Cons
    • No Dolby Vision or HDR10 support
    • Lacks Dolby Atmos

The Alpha 9 Gen 4 does a decent job of upscaling a film that can come across as quite noisy. There's a touch of ghosting on the edge of the time and ticker at the bottom of the screen and objects look a bit rough from distance. The audio performance of LG's C-series has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years.

    Pros
    • Sleek design
    • Excellent SDR and Dolby Atmos performance
    Cons
    • Sound isn’t the best

Blade Runner 2049 is a fabulously punchy and detailed picture with a colour balance that never looks anything other than entirely correct. With SDR content, the C1 skews slightly brighter than the CX and digs up a touch more dark detail. The sound is more open and spacious, giving everything a slightly more cinematic feel. But on the other hand, the sound is less Punchy and dynamic, and the presentation less exciting overall.

    Pros
    • Excellent picture quality
    • Dolby Vision, HDR10 and de-contouring
    Cons
    • Sound is less punchy and dynamic
    • No Dolby Atmos

OLED TVs are better for gaming than their LED-backlit counterparts because they don't have the extra step of processing the backlighting. LG's C1 also supports technologies from video card manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD that keep a game's frame rates synced with the screen's refresh rate. The TV's 65-inch size, resolution, and perfect contrast really make it feel like you're playing the real sport like a pro.

    Pros
    • Super-low input lag
    • Gorgeous 4K resolution
    • Great contrast
    Cons
    • Screen burn-in
    • No HDR10+ support
