Product Overview

LG NanoCell 80 is the entry-level option in LG's 2020 NanoCell IPS 4K TV lineup. It is powered by a Quad Core Processor 4K and supports a reduced range of HDR formats.
Being entry-level, the NanoCell 80 comes with direct backlighting without local dimming.
There is also NanoCell 79 that is essentially the same model with a different stand.
For the edge-lit model with local dimming, LG markets NanoCell 81 and NanoCell 85. The higher-end NanoCell 90 has full-array LED backlighting.

rtings[1]

Reviewer score 61% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The LG NANO80 is an okay overall TV and provides alright performance for its price and size. There are better options out there, especially if you don't need wide viewing angles and prefer something with better contrast, such as the Samsung TU6980. The Samsung uses a VA panel with a much better contrast ratio, gets significantly brighter, has better color accuracy, and better uniformity. The LG has an IPS panel with wider viewing angles, and it also has a quicker response time for less motion blur.
Pros
  • IPS panel with wide viewing angles
  • Wide color gamut
  • Black Frame Insertion feature
Cons
  • Mediocre black uniformity
