Product Overview

The G80 M3 and M3 Competition are the high-performance variants of the G20 BMW 3-series Sedans. They feature a similar front-end design as the new G22 4-series coupe and the G82 M4. For the first time in M3 history, a new all-wheel drive system is available for the M3 Competition.
The M3 comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the M3 Competition is available exclusively with an 8-speed automatic. The rear-wheel-biased xDrive system has 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD options, though the RWD mode requires the deactivation of stability control.
The new M Compound brakes come as standard, while M Carbon ceramic brakes are optional.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
In xDrive form, the M3 costs from £78,425 – a £2765 premium over the regular saloon. The system adds 55kg to the car, making the kerb weight 1780kg. The engine is strong, with a little lag at low revs but eager to rev out, and snarly while it does it.
Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good infotainment
Cons
  • Not as fast as regular M3

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The BMW M3 remains a driver's car of excellent quality. BMW has sensitively and thoughtfully applied new technology to the M3 throughout its generations. These new cars continue that trend, while also blending comfort with their explosive performance. Under the bonnet, a familiar tale is played out in the form of 3.0-litre, turbocharged straight-six power.
Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Impressive performance
Cons
  • Not as powerful as the M4
  • More expensive than M4

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The new M3 can carry quantifiably more speed into a corner than before. Like the M2 CS, the latest M3 is fitted with a forgiving clutch and an undemanding gearbox. M xDrive will next year be available in combination with the more powerful M3/M4 derivatives, but the bottom-rung beast remains rear-drive only.
Pros
  • Fantastic all-wheel-drive system
  • Impressive infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacklustre AWD
  • No automatic gearbox

cnet[4]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
The 2021 BMW M3 Competition is a true driver's car, even if its steering could be improved. The steering may be dull, but the car feels lively, like you can easily make it rotate with a tap of your right foot. This BMW's interior is roomier than you might expect and it's pretty luxurious.
Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Impressive infotainment system
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Awful steering
  • Poor traction control
