Product Overview

BMW M4 G82 is a high-performance variant of the G22 BMW 4 Series compact executive coupe in production from 2020. It is powered by several tunes of the S58 bi-turbo inline-6 engine that displaced 3.0 liters.
The M4 is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the M4 Competition comes standard with an 8-speed automatic. For the first time, the M4 Competition can be configured with M xDrive all-wheel drive.
The updated S58B30T0 engine found in the M4 and M4 Competition is the twin-turbo, high-performance variant of the B58B30 that can be found in most BMW models. Power is sent to either two or all four wheels.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
It's the same length but 16mm narrower and 40mm lower than the M3. Same 2993cc engine, drivetrain, 18/19in wheels as standard or 19/20in wheels with 275/35 R19 front and 285/30 R20 rear tyres. Different ratios to improve acceleration, although there are sufficient gears that it’s not obvious.

Pros
  • Looks and feels like a sports car
  • Lots of fun to drive
Cons
  • Not as agile as the M3
  • Lack of lateral give

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 78%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
New twin-turbo six-cylinder engine churns out 503bhp and 650Nm of torque. Power is diverted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed auto rather than the dual-clutch unit used by the old M4. You'll have to wait until the summer to order an M3 or M4 with the system as early cars are rear-wheel drive only.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Expensive for what you get
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive

Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
The M4 Competition is a car that'll make you sweat, swear and question your own sense of self-preservation on a committed drive. It's capable of settling down into an exemplary everyday car with almost GT levels of refinement. The adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers does a fine job of keeping the car level in sport plus settings. As is the cabin layout, infotainment and optional Clubsport carbon bucket seats.

Pros
  • Impressive power and torque
  • Powerful engine
