Product Overview

The facelifted BMW 5 Series Sedan (G30) and Touring (G31) feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology in all four- and six-cylinder models, except for the plug-in hybrid 530e and 530e xDrive.
On the outside, Adaptive LED Headlights with matrix, adaptive cornering, and BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high beam as well as BMW Laserlight are available. The front-end has been redesigned to include a prominent BMW kidney grille with single-piece surround, like the G32 6 Series facelift, and comes in line with newer BMW models. At the back, LED tail lights now feature a new L-shape graphic, with three-dimensional structure.
Inside, Live Cockpit Professional digital dashboard comes standard, and so does the 12.3-inch Control Display.

Reviewer score 86%
Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
616bhp BMW M5 Competition would cater best for demand from 5 Series customers who wanted the fastest and the best. But as successive road tests have shown, the M5 has grown more and more hardcore in demeanour and behaviour in recent years. A UK M550i will save something like £30,000 compared with an M5. It starts at a reasonable-sounding £68,590.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Excellent long-distance comfort
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Suspension isn’t stiff enough for rough-roads

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The 5 Series has been a mainstay of the BMW line-up since 1972. The current G30 incarnation - mildly facelifted in 2020 - is bigger yet lighter and more efficient than past models. It uses technology borrowed from the 7 Series limousine, so has lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre in its construction. The car’s top-notch refinement is backed up by one of the classiest cabins in the business. The engine range is more extensive, with a selection of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants available.

Pros
  • Best-in-class infotainment system
  • Classy cabin
Cons
  • Lack of standard equipment

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The M550i is the least sensible variant of the updated 5 Series line-up, yet still achieves a 4.5-star rating. We'd recommend the more modestly priced yet equally polished options further down the range. Every version benefits from impeccable build quality, superb engines, strong refinement and tech, and tidy handling.

Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Excellent handling
Cons
  • M550i xDrive isn’t for everyone

Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
ipped with adaptive M suspension, the ride is the most luxurious out of any 5er in the range. isolating you from bumps as you glide over them with just the ocassional ripple felt through the seats. Three litres of six-cylinder diesel may not match the V8 petrol's headline power, but it produces 479lb ft. On 20-inch wheels and the optional adaptive dampers found on the M Sport Pro Pack, the 530d xDrive bobs over bumps in a manner that soon becomes annoying.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Superb ride quality
  • Superb infotainment system
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • M Sport Pro Pack isn’t for everyone
