Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Sedan (X290)

MSRP 115900 USDNEX score 85%

Product Overview

The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is the third vehicle to be developed directly by Mercedes-AMG. It features either a 4.0L V8 (M177) or a 3.0L I6 (M256) coupled to a 9G tronic automatic transmission that drives all wheels. An upcoming 73 model that combines the V8 in the 63 with a hybrid system has also been planned.
The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe (X290) shares many components with the E- and CLS-classes sedans. It is essentially an extension to the CLS AMG lineup.

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is wickedly fast, as rumbustious as an AMG should be. Its E-Class underpinnings – albeit heavily reworked – mean it lacks some of the exoticism of the two-door. All versions feature a 9-speed automatic and four-wheel drive though, and the expected UK entry model will be the GT 53 4Matic+.

Pros
  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Impressive handling
Cons
  • Lacks some of the fun of the E63

autoexpress[2]

Sentiment Score 95%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
It's a four-door version of the bonkers AMG GT supercar. From the passenger seat it's clear AMG have managed to carry over the GT's surefooted handling and sense of occasion while adding a nice dose of practicality. The bi-turbo 4.0-litre V8 is bellowing, angrily snapping through the gears.

Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Impressive acceleration
Cons
  • Not the most practical

autoexpress[3]

Sentiment Score 79%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door sits on a different platform to its conventional GT sibling. Under that super swoopy body lies the architecture that underpins the latest Mercedes E-Class. There's the standard GT 63 with a 577bhp version of AMG's ‘hot-V' 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine, as well as a GT 63 S with a stonking 630bhp. The standard car costs £121,350, while the S is priced from £135,550.

Pros
  • Stylish looks
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Fantastic infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of practicality

carmagazine[4]

Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
The AMG GT 4-Door has a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine. It has a swoopy dashboard and twin 12.3-inch screens controlled by thumbpads on the steering wheel. The centre console also boasts a bank of animated buttons, for things like the manual gearbox mode, ESP, rear spoiler and start/stop.

Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Fantastic infotainment
Cons
  • Not the most fun to drive
  • Fiddly tailgate

carwow[5]

Sentiment Score 93%
Reviewers from carwow have found the following***:
The Mercedes AMG GT 4-door is a luxurious four-door coupe with supercar performance and enough space inside for up to five adults. This alternative to the likes of the cheaper Porsche Panamera is available with two engines with four power outputs – all of which drive all four wheels through an automatic gearbox as standard. It's not just packed with high-performance tech – inside you get a seriously luxurious interior.

Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Superb infotainment system
Cons
  • Not particularly easy to use on the move
  • Not particularly fun to drive

cnet[6]

Sentiment Score 79%
Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
Everything about the GT53 might feel shiny and new, but the tech doesn't. The old 12.3-inch COMAND infotainment system still offers plenty of capability. The menus and their submenus can be complicated to navigate the first few times. It's a solid hands-on system, holding the lane with little wavering.

Pros
  • Sleek, sporty styling
  • Solid infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of tech
  • No touch capability
