Sentiment Score 63%
Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
Mazda’s innovative 2.0-litre ‘SPCCI’ compression-ignition petrol engine has lately come in for its first major mechanical overhaul. Engine has had new, reprofiled intake cams, a lowered compression ratio, new pistons and recalibrated control software. New engine yields an extra 6bhp and 12lb ft of torque when working hardest, and makes for a CO2 emissions saving of between 5- and 11g/km depending on model.

Pros
  • Well-weighted and precise handling
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Not the most practical

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The CX-30 has been designed to appeal to people like us in a way that many rivals don't. Infotainment screen is ideally sited on top of the dashboard and is operated by a rotary controller set on the transmission tunnel. Headup display, heated seats, adaptive LED headlights, keyless entry and, well, the list goes on.

Pros
  • Gutless engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment
Cons
  • Lack of kit

autoexpress[3]

Sentiment Score 70%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Mazda CX-30 is a well-rounded premium compact SUV. Interior build quality surpasses the majority of its mainstream rivals. There is only one body style available, and that is a five-door SUV shape. All trim levels and engines are available with either a manual or an automatic gearbox.

Pros
  • High-quality interior
  • Fantastic infotainment system
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • No automatic gearbox
  • Lack of standard equipment

autoexpress[4]

Sentiment Score 66%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The CX-30 slots neatly into the compact crossover class, being just a little bit larger than the Volkswagen T-Roc. Inside, the layout of the dashboard and switchgear is similar to that of the Mazda 3, save for a bit of extra padding on the top of the facia. Materials are strong and high-quality, switches operate satisfyingly and are logically laid out, and the new 8.8-inch infotainment display is sharp and easy to use. There's plenty of space up front, and Mazda has nailed the Cx-30's driving position.

Pros
  • Powerful turbocharged engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment
Cons
  • Lacklustre petrol engine

autoexpress[5]

Sentiment Score 72%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
Mazda's new Skyactiv-X petrol engine uses spark-controlled compression ignition and a mild-hybrid setup. It applies some diesel-inspired tech to reduce emissions while maintaining petrol-like performance. Overall, the interior of the CX-30 puts almost any mainstream rival to shame. Rear headroom is fine, but anyone over six-foot tall will struggle for knee room.

Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of turbo

autoexpress[6]

Sentiment Score 65%

hybrid technology and updated the 2.0-litre engine, badged 'e-SkyActiv X' The addition of a starter generator, modified pistons, revised intake valve timing and a lower compression ratio has added 6bhp and 16Nm of torque, while also bolstering efficiency. Power is up to 184bhp, but there's a reduction in CO2 emissions of between five and 11g/km depending on the car's spec. The CX-30 excels in keeping the driver engaged, even at normal speeds.

Pros
  • Responsive and linear engine
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Lacklustre fuel economy
  • Front cupholders are behind gear lever

autoexpress[7]

Sentiment Score 64%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
Linear and responsive, it rewards drivers who want to use its sweet manual gearbox to enjoy its surprisingly wide power band. The CX-30 has poised handling to match, but this is a smaller SUV with less rear passenger and boot space than some rivals. There's some well thought-out storage dotted around the interior, including a wide cubby between the front seats and large door bins.

Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of rear passenger space
  • Expensive for a hatchback

carmagazine[8]

Sentiment Score 53%
Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
Mazda's new 2.0-litre normally aspirated engine uses a clever compression ignition system that is supposed to give it petrol-like performance and diesel-esque frugality. Peak power comes in at a heady 6,000 rpm, so the engine needs revving hard to get any momentum. The most fuel efficient Skyactiv-X records a WLTP figure of 45.6mpg. Ride and refinement are good, with a generally softer ride than a Mazda 3 hatch.

Pros
  • Well-resolved interior
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lacklustre petrol engine
  • Lack of torque

carwow[9]

Sentiment Score 62%
Reviewers from carwow have found the following***:
Mazda CX-30 comes with the choice of two petrol engines, both 2.0-litres in size. The first is a 122hp four-cylinder, while the other is a 180hp diesel engine. The cabin is decently spacious up front, but rear leg room is pretty tight. Getting into and out of the back seat requires more contortion that we'd like.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of standard equipment
Cons
  • Ride quality is a little on the rough side
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive

cnet[10]

Sentiment Score 73%
Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
All CX-30s get a Mazda Connect infotainment system with an 8.8-inch center display. There are only two USB ports and a 12-volt outlet up front, with no power points within easy reach of passengers in back. The 2.5-liter naturally aspirated I4 makes 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque.

Pros
  • G-Vectoring tech
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Lack of infotainment features

cnet[11]

Sentiment Score 79%
Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The CX-30's cabin is beautifully styled and built. The cabin is made of top-quality materials, with plenty of premium leather and soft plastic. This is a vehicle that's easy to jump in and drive because everything is intuitive. The range-topping Premium Plus version is appreciably pricier, but not as expensive as you might think.

Cons
  • Lack of touchscreen
  • No touchscreen

cnet[12]

Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The CX-30 Turbo is happy to be chucked into corners, and nicely handles them. Mazda's G-Vectoring Control Plus tech transfers a tiny bit of weight to the car's nose on turn-in. Cargo space is similarly on the smaller side, with 20.2 cubic feet of space with the rear seats up.

Pros
  • Powerful turbocharged engine
  • Lots of power
  • Good cabin tech
Cons
  • No touchscreen
  • Lackluster driver-assistance tech

digitaltrends[13]

Sentiment Score 79%
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found the following***:
Despite its airy interior, this is still a small compact crossover. The rear seats can handle adults, but not without pushing the front seats forward. The CX-30 is mid-pack in overall volume, which might be a problem if you make frequent trips to Ikea. Mazda has made adaptive cruise control and LED headlights standard on all trims.

Pros
  • Sleek interior
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • No touchscreen
  • Lack of safety features
