Product Overview

Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS is a super telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2019, it has 17 elements in 24 groups.
Photographers will be pleased by the fact that the lens is internally-zooming, meaning that the barrel does not extend when the focal length is changed. This helps balance and weather sealing; it is also great for long-term durability, as there is less chance for moisture and dirt to get in. For incremental weathers, Sony is kind enough to include weather sealing.
As a super telephoto zoom lens, the Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS can be quite useful for wild-life and landscape photography. Built-in image stabilization is almost a must-have at this focal range, and this lens does not disappoint on this front. Owners will also like the available tripod collar and compatibility with teleconverters.

Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
Weighing 1395g, it’s also considerably lighter than the 200-600mm which weighs-in at 2115g. The combination of internal zooming coupled with a short twist of around 70 degrees between 200 and 600mm allows you to quickly and easily adjust the focal length while shooting. The zoom action feels very smooth too, and I found I could effectively go through the whole range with just a light twist between my thumb and finger.
Pros
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Long range with short angular throw
  • Competitive price
Cons
  • Smaller and heavier than 100-400mm

Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
As an "FE" lens, the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens is compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras. The 100-400 has a 1/3-stop-wider aperture available from 300-400mm and has a longer zoom ring rotation. The Sony lens has less vignetting in the 200mm corners.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras
  • 1-year limited warranty
Cons
  • Relatively narrow aperture

Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The FE 200-600mm focuses quickly and accurately. It can be paired with Sony's 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverters to extend its reach. There's no vignette of which to speak, but there is a bit of pincushion distortion.
Pros
  • Excellent autofocus performance
  • Excellent build quality
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Pincushion distortion

Sony FE 200-600 F5.6-6.3 G OSS and FE 100-400 GM + TC1.4 (comparison) Lens has a fixed length which is a huge plus in term of handling & carrying the lens compared to Sigma/Tamron alternatives. Lens is part of the G series and not the GM, this helps to keep the cost contained at 2100 euros.
Pros
  • Very big, the biggest zoom in e-mount
  • Very easy to focus even with one finger, there is enough fluidity in the zooming ring without being loose at all
  • Very long focusing distance: 240cm (quite long unfortunately)
  • Removable tripod collar but without 90°...
Cons
  • The lens does not extend at all: it has a fixed length (it has a non removable tripod collar
  • It requires only a 70° rotation to zoom from 200mm to 600mm
  • No polarising filter window
