History

Olympus is a brand of photographic equipment managed by OM Digital Solutions. Originally, it was part of the Olympus Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer of photographic and optical products, which is a major player in medical, scientific, and industrial optics. Olympus has long marketed its photographic lenses under the Zuiko brand.
Olympus is the original designer of the Four Thirds standard in DSLR. Together with Panasonic, Olympus developed it into Micro Four Thirds for mirrorless. Though at one point MFT was rather popular, the decline of the camera industry and the encroachment from both camera phones and full-frame cameras led to its decline. In 2021, the camera department was sold to OM Digital Solutions as part of the portfolio of Japan Industrial Partners.
