Volvo Cars is a Swedish automotive manufacturer founded in 1927. In its century-long history, Volvo cars have long been marketed as safe and the company has stressed its reputation for safety and reliability. It plans to produce only electrified cars from 2040 onwards.

The name Volvo is Latin for "I roll", originally trademarked by SKF, a Swedish bearing manufacturer, for ball bearings. Instead, SKF set up Volvo to manufacture automobiles. Over the years, Volvo attempted to merge with other automakers without success.

In 1999, AB Volvo sold Volvo Cars to Ford, retaining the more profitable business of commercial vehicles (trucks, buses, and construction euqipment) in the form of "Volvo Group". Since 2010, Volvo Cars has been a subsidiary of the Chinese automotive company Geely.

The current vehicle lineup of Volvo includes two sedans (S60, S90), two wagons (V60, V90), and three crossovers (XC40, XC60, XC90).
