Product Overview

Audi R8 4S facelift is a premium sports car in production from 2019. It is available with several tunes of Audi's V10 FSI engine that displaced 5.2 liters.
New for the facelift is the introduction, at last, of optional RWD, which has been long due. This sets the R8 closer to the Lamborghini Huracan, which is more powerful and exclusive but also with some negative social associations.
Undoubtedly, the most exciting thing about the Audi R8 is the V10 engine, which carries a distinct sonic characteristic and instant power response that rival V12s even if it falls short in terms of smoothness.
Utility-minded owners will likely need to keep an alternative for hauling things around, as the tiny cargo space is almost surely insufficient.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
There are only gentle revisions to the Audi R8 super sports car for the 2019 model year. Few mechanical changes have occurred beyond a mild reskin inspired, Audi says, by its GT3 customer racing car. The R8 continues with the same 5.2-litre V10 engine, rear-biased four-wheel drive and with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard.

Pros
  • Fantastic V10 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Nothing in particular

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The R8 RWD is £15,000 less expensive than its quattro-equipped range-mate. Neither the 29bhp deficit nor the absence of adjustable magnetic suspension, which is standard on the more expensive model, harm its appeal one bit. This is an approachable supercar; it keeps its snout a sensible height above the ground, visibility is good and the cabin is comfortable.

Pros
  • Powerful V10 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Impressive handling
Cons
  • Slightly edgy handling
  • No adjustable suspension

Audi is also offering a posher Edition trim, which brings the rear-driver the carbonfibre furniture, 20in wheels and a Bang & Olufsen stereo. Despite expectations, the reduction in driven wheels doesn’t make the Performance RWD feel radically different from its Quattro sister. Gran Canaria’s sometimes dusty roads produced the occasional sense of gentle traction control intervention.

Pros
  • Powerful V10 engine
  • Sleek looks

Cons
  • No adaptive dampers

Both the R8’s standard passive steering set-up and its optional active-variable-ratio ‘dynamic steering’ system have been retuned. The latter has only been made available on limited-edition ‘Decennium’ cars in the UK so far. Driving the Audi R8 in this form really does feel like strapping on that Lamborghini V10 as if it was some super-low-altitude jetpack, and then howling off down the road.

Pros
  • Powerful V10 engine
  • Comfortable ride and handling
Cons
  • Lack of dynamic swagger
  • Not the most fun to drive

autoexpress[5]

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Audi R8 is a supercar from a dying breed. As makers add turbochargers to their cars to meet ever-stricter emissions targets, the naturally aspirated engine is falling out of favour. But, while the 5.2-litre V10 is a focal point of the car, there's much more to the R8 than simply a big engine.

Pros
  • Gorgeous V10 engine
  • Fantastic V10 soundtrack
Cons
  • Lack of turbochargers

cnet[6]

Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The joy of driving an R8 comes from its approachability. The R8 doesn't try to stray too far from the luxurious comfort available in its road cars. In Performance guise, the R8's naturally aspirated V10 puts out a healthy 602 horsepower. Carbon ceramic brakes come standard on the V10 Performance.

Pros
  • Gorgeous V10 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Quattro all-wheel-drive
Cons
  • No manual gearbox
  • Paddle wheel-mounted paddles
