Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class C118 is a compact sedan in production from 2019. It is available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 1.3 to 2.0 liters.
Essentially a hunchback sedan variant of the W177 A-Class hatchback, the C118 CLA is rather ugly from all but the front. The front of this car now looks like just about every other Mercedes, including models that sell for 3x the price.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe C118 is limited to inline-4, which just a decade ago would be considered inadequate but which is what most have to live with today, thanks to regulations.
Engineers at Mercedes-Benz clearly made a great effort in aerodynamics, with a class-leading 0.24 coefficient of drag to show for it.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 66% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The new Mercedes-Benz CLA is not: an A-Class in drag. It sits on the same platform as Mercedes' latest hatchback and uses the same engines, gearboxes and many other systems. Five petrol-powered CLA variants will come to the UK this summer, all available to order now. All have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (although a manual is coming later)
Pros
  • Class-leading practicality
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good-looking interior
Cons
  • No automatic gearbox
  • Lacklustre infotainment system

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 67% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Mercedes CLA is the most stylish member of the Mercedes A-Class family. It’s also the best to drive and shares the same beautifully built and tech-laded interior. The downsides are limited practicality and high prices once you’ve added a few must-have options.
Pros
  • Gorgeous, tech-laden interior
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Less practical than A-Class hatchback

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Mercedes is very good at this stuff, but some of it feels gimmicky and unnecessary, and even distracting. AMG Line Premium you get a bigger instrument display, augmented-reality sat-nav, a dash cam, ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours, and a rear armrest. Extra money buys satnav with augmented reality which activates a front camera on the approach to turn-offs, roundabouts and crossroads.
Pros
  • Comfortable, well-built cabin
  • Comfortable and well equipped
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacklustre tech
  • Expensive for what it offers
