Product Overview

Toyota RAV4 Mk5 is a compact crossover in production from 2018. It is available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 2.0 to 2.5 liters.
Compared to its predecessor, the Mk5 RAV4 is slightly less ugly but it has very little notable mechanical changes. It remains a compelling choice for those who want to save fuel but does so without inspiring any emotions.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, will appreciate the approach, departure, and breakover angles that the chassis offers.

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 51% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The Toyota RAV4 is a good-looking, comfortable and usefully sure-footed SUV. Central to this powertrain is a 2.5-litre, naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. In our front-wheel-drive test car, this was paired with a CVT and an electric motor for a combined system output of 215bhp. The infotainment suite is pretty rubbish, and unless you’re a fan of puzzles and retro graphics, I’d hazard a guess you won’t exactly warm to it.
Pros
  • Powerful hybrid powertrain
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Fiddly infotainment
  • No Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The latest Toyota RAV4 represents a welcome step forwards over the old model. It's still very well-built and likely to be solidly reliable. However, it lags behind key rivals in the infotainment stakes and the limited engine range may put off some. It drives neatly and rides very well, but many cheaper rivals offer a similar breadth of ability.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Stylish styling
Cons
  • Lags behind rivals in infotainment
  • Limited engine range

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The RAV4 feels airy and light up front, with ample rear leg and headroom even with the driver and passenger seats pushed reasonably far back. The small central tunnel running through the car also means that – even on four-wheel drive models – there's plenty of legroom for middle seat passengers. Apple CarPlay is standard with the 8.0-inch Touch 2 infotainment system, which also features nine speakers as part of the JBL 800W sound system.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacks smartphone integration
  • Lack of safety tech

cnet[4]

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
Toyota has been at the forefront when it comes to democratizing its safety systems. Front-wheel drive is standard on the RAV4, but my Adventure trim packs an all-wheel-drive system. Toyota's Entune 3.0 system features more capability than prior versions.
Pros
  • Excellent on-road performance
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment tech
Cons
  • Lack of powertrain refinement

digitaltrends[5]

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is now standard across all trims. Buyers get adaptive cruise control, pre-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane departure control, automatic high beams, road sign recognition, and lane tracing assist. Toyota backs every RAV4 with a standard warranty of 36 months or 36,000 miles.
Pros
  • Fun to drive
  • Good fuel economy
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Expensive compared to rivals

pcmag[6]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's battery-assisted powertrain has 16 more horsepower than its non-hybrid sibling. Even with this extra power, EPA-estimated fuel economy is up to 39mpg combined. The XSE trim's sport-tuned suspension handles curves with minimal body roll and smooths out small bumps.
Pros
  • Sleek, sporty styling
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • Powerful JBL audio system
Cons
  • Slightly kludgy steering wheel controls
  • Lacks Android Auto
