Product Overview

Volvo XC90 II facelift is a large crossover in production from 2019. It is available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 2.0 liters.
Compared to the pre-facelift, very little cosmetic updates have been introduced. The main difference is the introduction of PHEV to the T8.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 52% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The XC90 is still a big, heavy SUV, and while it feels responsive enough in a straight line, the engine has to work much harder here than it did in the smaller XC60 earlier in the year. It starts smoothly, is unobtrusive at slower speeds, and in traffic the start/stop system is very subtle. Momentum trim does without the optional air suspension, but even on passive dampers the ride is well-judged across most surfaces.
Pros
  • Well-equipped and well-appointed interior
  • Decent fuel economy
Cons
  • Modestly-sized petrol engine
  • No automatic gearbox

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Volvo XC90 was a big hit when it was launched in 2002. It was one of the first big SUV makers to embrace ‘downsizing’ powertrains. Second-generation models offer a touch of premium luxury and excellent standard safety kit. Despite dated styling and reasonably high running costs, it offers good practicality.
Pros
  • Excellent standard safety kit
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Excellent standard equipment
Cons
  • Lacks a European badge
  • Lack of standard equipment

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 64% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Air-suspended XC90s deliver an impressive drive, blending a cosseting ride with impressive body control. Volvo quotes an official electric range of 31 miles, but with day-to-day mixed driving expect more like 20. Although the heating/cooling functions are controlled via the car's touchscreen, which is annoying and fiddly on the move.
Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Impressive range
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Noisy on the move
  • Fiddly to use the touchscreen

cnet[4]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
For 2020, Volvo has executed a string of blink-and-you'll-miss-them visual updates. Power in the T8 is predictably effortless, with a particularly strong slug of midrange torque. Volvo has arguably been the only automaker to gain meaningful traction with a subscription option.
Pros
  • Sleek, sporty design
  • Satisfying ride quality
  • Excellent safety tech
Cons
  • No paddle shifters
  • Expensive for a midsize SUV

pcmag[5]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The 2020 Volvo XC90 is still one of the best-looking vehicles in its class. The interior is equally understated, with tasteful wood accents and other elegant touches. The Sensus Connect infotainment system hasn't changed much since when we first reviewed it in 2016.
Pros
  • Sensus Connect infotainment system is more intuitive to use
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • Powerful electric motors
Cons
  • Lack of USB charging ports
  • No paddle shifters
