Product Overview

Audi S3 Sportback (Typ 8Y) is a compact hatchback in production from 2020. It is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine that drives all four wheels via a 7-speed DCT.
As usual, the "Audi S" model is just a slightly more powerful variant of the base Mk4 A3 Sportback. As the entire lineup suffers from downsizing, this is the last 2.0L I4 petrol available.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Audi S3 Sportback MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
Quattro system has been very lightly revised and those adaptive dampers are now based around a more traditional hydraulic set-up rather than the Magnetic Ride system that was employed by the last S3. This, Audi says, makes for handling that is “even more sporty and nimble” Excellent. It all seems to work rather nicely, too, because the S3 remains a car that’s incredibly easy to drive incredibly quickly.
Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Impressive mid-range performance
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Quattro system isn’t quite as sporty as rivals
  • Lack of dynamic character

Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
S3 can take pretty much everything you can throw at it, even if it is compromised in a few areas. It carried our luggage for a week, it’s efficient, it boasts some excellent big-car tech and infotainment. It felt reassuringly solid when storms rolled in off the Atlantic. Yes, it could do with a little more personality, but I’d go so far as to say it can be fun.
Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment
Cons
  • Mushy steering
  • Not the most practical

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo makes 306bhp and 295lb ft, sprinting to 62mph in 4.8 seconds and onto 155mph. New tech includes a Haldex 6 multi-plate clutch slung under the boot floor. For the first time, the S3’s quattro system can now be entirely rear-wheel drive in extremis.
Pros
  • Powerful turbocharged engine
  • Impressive handling
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Lack of grip
