Photographers will be pleased by the fact that the lens is internally-zooming, meaning that the barrel does not extend when the focal length is changed. This helps balance and weather sealing; it is also great for long-term durability, as there is less chance for moisture and dirt to get in. Sony has endowed it with power zoom feature, which can be quite useful for videography, but which makes the lens less suitable for stills work (with the unnecessary weight and complexity). For incremental weathers, Sony is kind enough to include weather sealing.
